There was a special on G27's, a few mates picked one up for a little over $200 a week or so ago - unsure if that deal is still going. A wheel is absolutely essential for iRacing.

I currently have a year sub but haven't played it in awhile as I've been tied up with other things.

You'll start with a Rookie licence for both road and oval and you'll have to turn incident free laps in either a sanctioned race or a time trial to accumulate a safety rating. Incidents are leaving the track, losing control, hitting a wall, hitting a competitor (regardless of who's at fault). This is how you get licences to progress to more challenging series.

The MX5's are a great little car and probably the best of the lot to learn in. There's also youtube videos on iRacing's site that'll give you some invaluable tips. You can purchase other cars and tracks that you don't have licence on for driving in practice and private races but you won't be able to race with them until you achieve the minimum licence requirements.

It's a great service and the netcode is fantastic. If you can get a C Road licence, you can race in the V8 FG Supercar series which is quite popular here (for obvious reasons)
