The water will travel into all the nooks and crannies in the body of the car, carrying the kerosene with it. When the water dries up it will leave an oily film behind, thus helping to prevent rust. Plus, the kerosene helps to get rid of tar and road grime. I have done this with all my cars, plus plenty of fish oil, and have never had a rust problem.

This used to be common practice many years ago, not sure anyone does it these days, but should work nicely!
