I think some people may be missing some of the analysis.
Its not an issue of just keeping the plant marginally viable in Australia.
What the man says is “But at the end of the day when you look at the exchange rates, and the cost structure it was clearly best to serve Australian customers (from overseas factories),”
The focus is given the currency level and free trade agreements it cheaper to service the Australian customer from overseas. i.e we get cheaper cards and a larger range.
Now I know everyone who is a Falcon supporter will cry foul (me included) however its a global view, and to be honest, hes probably right. Ford can deliver cheaper cars and a larger choice of cars by using an import only model for the Australian consumer.
I\m personally devastated to see Falcon die. However, I know there will be plenty of good offerings on the table from Ford and I will get over it. And more importantly there will still be a good Ford to buy.
