Australia is an island we pay more to live in a remote area of the world.
But if you are comparing the states you need to look at the average wage. Cars are priced at what people can afford.
In Australia you would not work for $3.00 an hour in America people do.
Also selling a car in Australia, you will have a smaller amount of people who want to buy the car due to the small number of people living in Australia. America have over 200 million people, Australia have 22 odd million people living here. The market for cars in Australia is small, so cars need to be sold at a higher price to cover costs.
Similar with other countries.
