If you want to go a little more extreme with off roading, it needs better tyres and some tweaks to vehicle electronics to improve traction control when wheels start spinning/ off the ground. |

Shark is no competition to ANY Ranger off road or towing.

Like most cars (vehicles) it doesn't have to be better or compete on every level. It just has to perform at a level the buyer is happy with.
If it's $20k less and performs even only 70% as good it will still sell. Yes, Ranger is the benchmark and rightly so but there is still a reasonable number of buyers that don't care for that extra 10% of performance or niche abilities. Is a small sample size and means very little but in the last couple of weeks I've seen plenty of BYD utes on the road here in southern Adelaide.

Yeah, but it was touted as a Ranger killer so you can’t blame people for drawing comparisons or pointing out its downsides compared to the Ranger.

A Power War has begun and even the car companies seem unaware at this early stage.
We are used to the War of who has the best V8 and power ect but things have changed. Ford fired the 1st shot with the 1st Gen Raptor, which engine wise was yeah.nah. 2nd Shot fired is Raptor Gen 2 with V6 Petrol. Heaps better. Shark comes a long with a 1.5 Petrol Hybrid. Totally different concept. Just comparing perceived Power in combining electric and petrol outputs. BYD are already talking about a 2.0 Petrol Hybrid and now there are others on the side lines with plans to enter. See where this is heading. 400kw+, 500kw+, 600kw+ and that is without even looking at the Nm figures.

Going to be a super exciting power war with separate chassis, live axles for some, 2000+kg weights, and drum brake rears....
(Kudos to Ford for the Watts link, my '94 ED XR8 has that)

Probably 80% of ute buyers don't care if it's not class leading in the mud, I tow trailers (not heavy) around my farm in NZ with a 2wd ute with no problems if your sensible about it
