is there any way to save the tranny after the radiator has let water in? i am aware of what caused it. the car was only driven about 5 km when it happened. i know this as i had checked the oil and water and it was fine drove down the shops and back, when i got home i had to check something else nad saw the goo in the recovery bottle.
the car has not moved since. about 3 days, should i drain the box? disconnect the lines? or am i screwed?!!!! |

the cooler in the radiator sounds like it has gone to lunch. big problems..

Get a trans specialist to look at it ... they can inspect it and see if there is damage ... but best best is a full flush on the transmission inc. trans cooler, etc. And hope of the best.

If the water is in there it might be too late .. The water affects the friction materials and glues used in the clutches and bands . You might be lucky in that the oil has got into the cooler and not water back into the trans since the trans oil is at lot higher pressure than the cooling system. If the trans oil looks ok you'll be fine ,if its pink or milky too late ..

Get the Trans checked and flushed, then get the Cooling System sorted. I suggest installing a dedicated external Oil cooler and having the internal cooler removed, you will also need to flush the system properly and get it ready for new conditioner.

Ouch, it's threads like this that have me considering the removal of the radiator from the transmission loop in favour of an external one.

ill be doing mine ASAP..
did some inspecting yesterday and the current hose on my external cooler is long enough to be rejoined to the standard metal line .. PHEW just need to get my brothers pipe cutter
