My compliance date is March of 2000, I bought it yesterday and i did not come with a "beep beep" remote for the central locking.
I did some reading and there are TWO remotes, Im a bit confused as to what one I buy... because this ad: Ebay Listing tells me the older style remote is suited for AU Fords up to 02/2000 yet my car looks like a AUI Quote:
AUII to AUIII Looks exactly Like This: Image So what type of AU series is my Forte or better still who else own's one like this and could tell me what your remote looks like? Cheers Lee Last edited by fishmad; 04-03-2008 at 01:27 AM. Reason: Spelling |

Gday mate, welcome to the forums and congrats on your purchase.
It looks a series 1 and the remote your after is the older style remote, only way to be 100% is to send bayford your details and they will confirm it for you. Cheers mick. |

yup, its a series 1 forte. you can tell by the "whale teeth" front grill and the amber lenses for the idicators on the tail lights. series 2/3 had clear taillights and a large grill (unless its ute or XR). Also on the compliance plate, it will have AU sedan. on series 2/3 it has AUII or AUIII (mine does anyway)
welcome to the forums and enjoy your AU. a quick search through the site and youll find heaps of ways to spend your hard earned too

My wagon is Feb 2000 and has the older style remote. Mine also has the egg carton grill from the ute. I was led to believe that the 2000 model AUs had the egg carton grill as standard rather than the whale tooth grill, could be wrong though.

sedan with seam down bonnet = AU1.
Although we did have a cab that was a Series III and it got a bent bonnet and grille one day so we took the bonnet and grille off a wreck of an AU1. Anyone who knows cabs knows that you can't run AU1s anymore, but you can just still run AUIIIs, so this one sometimes made people ask questions.

Wow, Fast replies- I never received and emails to confirm replies to this thread - lucky I checked..
Thanks for the welcome and posts.. So it looks like a later model AU1, The compliance plate just says "Sedan AU". Looks like I might be buying the older style remote .. not a problem. I will call Bayford with specs, as suggested just to confirm it. Thank you Lee |

teale_foundation sells refurbished units (Sold as new), Not that that would bother me anyway - they are checked by a tech before selling I checked them out earlier..
anyway I rang bayford dealership, gave them my make/model and they told me AU1 and Two button (older type) remote, so I went to local wrecker ( to anxious to wait for postage ) and picked up second hand unit for $25, went to hardware store and bought a new Battery $3.50.. Jumped in car and coded up the remote with the Ford in leaning mode. Key on (I) position and press (demister button) 3 times - and wala... central locking cycles through, press button on remote foor doors. then press other button on remote for boot (boot opens) .. turn key off - jump out of car and tested it, and it works sort of, my rear passenger door has a faulty actuator, so im in the middle of pulling it out now.. Following this DIY repair guide: AU FORD 98 - 00 DIY Actuator Repair anyway thanks for the tips.. I'm half way there now. Less typing more work.. yours is a standard "Forte" from 10/99 on they had smartshield (coded key) as aposed to smartlock but still used the smartlock remotes. Also had the cool addition of height adjustable seat belts and different trim.
Classic had the ute grille, "classic" alloy wheels, and small bobtail spoiler (dont know why they bothered) and some new colours. these came out after 10/99 as a stop gap before series 2.

how anyone cannot tell the difference between the auI and auII just by looking at the front amazes me.
