"Kia has overtaken Ford, Mitsubishi and its sister brand Hyundai in a major upset that catapulted the brand to third place in the new-car sales race in May 2021.
It is the first time Kia has outsold Ford in a monthly sales race, the second time it has ranked in third place, and the third time it has beaten Hyundai. Kia reported a record 7124 vehicles as sold in May 2021, a year-on-year increase of 158 per cent in a market that lifted by 67.5 per cent following sharp slowdowns this time last year. Significantly, Kia has also overtaken Ford in the year-to-date sales tally for the first five months of 2020." https://www.caradvice.com.au/957862/...ock-shortages/

Let me guess who wrote the article...JD I bet......yep....I was right...Kia has to be congratulated on their continued rise and yes they have no Ranger competitor but then again how many Ford products are there to compete with, all they can supply right now are Rangers, Everest, Pumas, Mustang and very small amounts of Transit Custom/Van:
Kia Carnival – 550 Kia Cerato – 2052 Kia Niro – 36 Kia Optima – 0 Kia Picanto – 609 Kia Rio – 503 Kia Seltos – 1118 Kia Sorento – 542 Kia Sportage – 565 Kia Stinger – 163 Kia Stonic – 986 Until all manufactures can say they are running at full capacity or full required production rates it's virtually impossible to determine where each brand stands based on purely buyer preferences and no hinderance to actual product availability. Only Toyota claims it has no parts shortages. |

I would have thought the picanto did better and ford can't beat that. I would have thought the sorento and sportage would have done better because no one knows the everest or escape. Instead it's because of the KIAs I never heard of anyway as well. Stonic? never heard of it. The cerato? I thought no one buys medium sedans/ hatchbacks anymore in Australia? That's what the media and manufacturers tell me. That's why mits have all but disappeared, nissan, honda, mondeo, commodore too. |

And that's how you can only really compete, a model in most segments and decent sales in each one...you could say Hyundai takes care of the van side and a new Staria is coming plus van derivative, Palisade for large SUV and their Santa Cruz ute is unibody..so imagine combing both brands.

They did. In the other KIA thread some smartarses thought I was unfairly bashing KIA without ever having one. I had the displeasure to drive a 2006 KIA 'pregio' van between 2006-2008.
What a pile of manure that was - I give KIA a fairer go than they deserve most of the time because it was relatively early days for KIA. |

Wow,stonic and seltos which didn’t exist a couple of years ago is 2000/month. The new stranger things themed ad campaign is cool, too. The Chinese brands will water this down eventually.

People are screaming for Ford to make their vehicles in RHD.
It doesn't seem to be a problem for Kia and look what happens.

A Kia ute is on the way. So is the EV6 which looks amazing. The just launched the Niro hybrid and ev but this is an old model from 2016 and is due for replacement soon. It doesn’t feel new or innovative in any way other than being ev.
Their 7 year warranty is a huge selling point. If anyone comes after that they will go longer. |

Perhaps the fine print is what decides? 10yrs if dealer serviced, 5yrs if you take it anywhere else. I guess the 7yr warranty from Kia is not dealership restricted. Having said that, I will be all over the new Outlander if it comes in diesel (highly unlikely apparently) as I simply can't ignore such a warranty. If no diesel I'll wait for the new Pajero Sport and see what they look like.

I'm quite happy with my two Falcons and my very ancient little Honda Accord . Kia won't be getting any business from me any time soon . Good luck and best wishes to anybody that wants one though. They're making decent cars these days no doubt .
I think the only one I'd remotely show any interest in given my penchant for RWD is the Stinger if ever I was to buy a Kia.. |

If the former than it's not on an independent chassis making it more like Ford's upcoming Maverick and our lost Falcon/Commodore (Unibody being the term now most often used as (iirc) Unitary construction was the original name). |

It will be a Hilux / Ranger sized platform from what I have read.
They will certainly have a lot of engine options to pick from. Speculative artist rendition below.

I’d put money on it being a twin to the unibody Hyundai. I would expect to see it last quarter 2021.
Pure speculation on my part but look at Kia and Hyundai’s history. They are sister companies and share development costs. |

Hyundai/Kia have been developing a 1T ute ala Ranger as well as the Santa Cruz. However the language from them lately has changed from when to if which I find curious.

If that full sized ute is made in NA we have SFA chance of getting it.
It will be purely LHD like the Telluride and if they can't keep up with demand for their own market they have no reason to make them in RHD. We get Palisade because it's made in Korea and more of a global vehicle so made for all markets. The guy I spoke to at Genesis has told me the straight six 3L diesel in the GV80 is going to be used in a full sized Hyundai ute to sell against the Hilux, Ranger and Amarok.
