Well I should tell the story before ya see the photos. This was my first week working for this mob and the first time I drove the ute. It was ranning and it was late on a friday so I wanted to get home. I reversed back from where I was parked and didn't think about the A frame. I put it in drive put my foot down a bit as the ute got going I reached for my seatbelt to plug it in wouldn't have been going faster then 25kph then BANG.. I thought what the hell. I looked to see what the hell I had run into. Nothing there so I opened the door and when I went to step out it didn't feel right, it seemed to be a big step. Then it kicked in the A frame...
Then I seen this... The next thing to do was to ring the Boss lol.. Told him the A frame would be ok but the ute was no good.. It was stuck I did try to get it out but it wouldn't move(towbar was stuck) we got the truck in and pulled it out. I then drove it out the way I came in then we put it on the truck to be taken away. When he strapped it down it was just about back to normal nice and flat well ya could still see but looked heaps better then when I drove it last. Ok hope ya see the bolts didn't snap, the A frame was used again and the ute got wrote off.. I hope ya's like my story. |

Holy bejeezus, I have put over a tonne in the back of one of those before and was impressed at how strong the chassis must be. But I guess it wasn't designed to have a bending force in the opposite direction.

i seen a AU ute have a truck run up its *** last year in sydney, it ended up the same way

It did still drive but was wrote off.. I kept my job.. It might have been because I rung the boss and told him what happend. I did get to drive the ute again and every time I sat my *** in it someone would remind me.. Not that I needed it lol.. I just couldn't beleave it would fold like that I thought it would have lost the A frame first.. O'well nobody was killed that's the main thing. That was my first car crash and all by myself lol.. The A frame was 30mm to high or the arch was 30mm to low. It only took a chip out of the birck work. : : :

Did you go in the same way? As if you drove in that way with a load on the extra weight would make it miss, maybe the 30mm it hit by on the way out!

I would have thought the Commercial chassis had more strength than the A frame on the back of the ute..
At least the brickies did a good job.. |

lol. Pays to be careful and think when you have a tall vehicle. I've seen people do that same sort of thing with forklifts. They'd drive with the forks up which ain't smart. They nearly had the factories roller door nearly fall down on top of them. The boss wasn't very happy as usually it was the same blokes who did it.

Thats the weakest excuse for a chassis ive ever seen. The A frame stays straight and the chassis bends in half????

Thats Gold, I feel sorry for ya, I cant imagine what would be going through your head at the time. As said before, thats one strong frame! Also the garage does't seem to be damaged much..lucky, thats an expensive bit to fix.

We are all capable of work related car mistakes. I did one recently, not quite the impact and outcome of this, but potentially could have been.
