Default My not so good day...

Yesterday wasn't a great day for me. It's a long story so i'll get through it as quickly as possible...

Was on my way to Ringwood in the EA and went to overtake a car on the freeway (a little spiritedly :P). Anyways when it down shifted all of a sudden my car starts backfiring, trans was going spastic as were my dash lights. Pulled to the side of the freeway and checked the car out. The negative terminal on my battery had come off (my battery wasn't secured in the spare wheel well : ) so i chucked it back on. Went to start the car and the battery was too weak to turn the motor, so i called a friend for a jump start. After a while my friend arrived and tried we tried to jump it, but the car wasn't firing. Tried priming the convertors, deflooding the engine, checking spark, checking relays, all seemed ok, but no go. Then finally decided to call RACV to come down and have a look at it for me, but they wont do road side assistance on a freeway and wanted to send a tow truck. Last time i had them send a tow truck there was no way of getting it on, so i had them refer me to another company. Got them to come out with planks of wood and as we were loading it on the front bar started scraping badly. He asked me whether i wanted him to keep going or to let her back down, so i decided after being stuck on the side of the freeway for 2 hours i would take my chances. Anyways, as the car was being pulled up the front bar cracked majorely in two places under the cooler. Needless to say i'm considering raising the front back up to a reasonable height...

Anyways that's my rant for the day, here's some pics of the damage....

PS. Anybody got any idea's on what the problem with my car could be???

That car just isnt meant to be on the road is it!! It seems to be always in the shed and when it comes out it goes straight back in there needing fixing!! LOL!! Bad luck steve, hope you can sort it out.

Pretty radical idea, but have you thought of air bags?

EDIT - Looking at the first pic, the bumper alignment looks way off too... is that a result of the tow truck?

We all dream of air bags :P

It's not just getting in and out of driveways, tow truck etc that leads me to raise it. Went on a fordmods cruise the other night (yeh i feel bad for debuting it for them and not you guys :P) and driving through williamstown was a nightmare. The roads over there a really bad and the car would bottom out every few seconds. Also the tyres scrub, not sure where as my gaurds have been rolled and there is no visble sign to indicate were exactly it's scrubbing. Just too many headaches to deal with unfortunately....

Ouch! Not good to see Steve.

I should give you the phone number of my tow truck guy. He's taken my car quite a few times and it's never scraped getting loaded on. My car sits low as at the front.

but if tray is extended and it's a standard falcon bar it won't scrape. steve has a spoilered up front bar.. that's the difference

my old man's a towy and i've always gone to the extra effort, and if mates ever ask to take show cars on his truck he usually tells them not as you have to goto a lot of effort to get it up without scratching etc

Smartlock jewel is acting normally. I've had the terminal come loose before and the car started up normally. Relays are clicking, as is the lock off valves and it's getting spark...

Lock offs are clicking and you car hear a squirt of gas when you press the primer button on top of the convertor. Not sure but i've been told there's a gas injector on the side of the convertors that helps deliver gas at low idle. Could this be something to look out for?

i mean the cam actually slipped, bolt cam a bit lose at the front, the little peg has sheared off. These things happen, then you have spark, fuel but way wrong timing.

Its only a suggestion to double check the timing alignment.

P.S. the height of my car just clears a standard flatbed tray to be loaded without scraping, but only just.

I seriously doubt it as it would be a hell of a coincidence to have that happen + have my battery terminal come loose at the same time. I could still drive the car to the side with the power i got from the alternator so it was still running before i turned the car off.

try swapping the fuel map...

mine backfired on petrol 12 months ago and blew out the centre muffler while it was at it! all what caused it was a lead had come off and the force destroyed the fuel map, the car still ran but not fantastic after that... but changing everything i swapped mine and i was cursing cos thats all it was ( i found the fault after the dyno day in geelong)

try a holden motor they dont have problems haha. nah but being serious it could be your gas. even though you can hear it when you prime it manually that might be the only time the gas gets flowing. if a pump has stopped you can do it manually but the minute u turn the key theres nothin comin in.

You need to check the diaphram for damage , 70% of the time its a pinhole from the "Bang"
pull the hose to the inlet manifold and have someone turn the ignition ( no smoking) you should hear the gas while cranking .
