Default Dash light out?

Hey guys

Just wanted to know, are there globes behind the odometer? Half of the odometer section is out, odometer reading is still visible just no light behind it. But the other half, where the km's left part on the left is stil lit up?

Any thoughts guys

cheers

Fraid that yes you are wrong, there's 2 globes behind there, i replaced one in a mates ute the other day with the exact same issue. Pull the cluster out, then youll be able to rmeove the globes. Take the blown globe out of the holder and whack a new one in, reassemble - all done.

Yup, if you have a look at the cluster, at the top there's 2 black plugs, you can pull em out with your finger. Philips head screws behind them, take those out, then pop out your fuel/bootlid release buttons, stick a big long screwdriver up behind the cluster, and carefully prise it out. Make sure youve got the whole thing because the mask (plastic bit over the front of the cluster) can come off on its own, and you dont want it to break.

Once the cluster's out, you'll see 2 looms, they plug into the back of the cluster at opposite ends, unplug them (you cant put them back in the wrong way as theyre different connectors so dont worry),then you can pull the cluster right out of the car. From there you'll be able to get the bulbs out.

Refitting is the reverse, when you start the car again you might see the dash display a "t" for a few seconds - this is normal.

Not hard

2 screws under little plastic caps, carefully lever cluster forward, unclip wiring plugs, lower steering wheel and pull out

turn over and you can see 2 or 3 grey bulb holders along the top, they are the backlights
the black bulbs are the warning lights, it's a good idea to check these while it is out as well, check with multimeter

the small odometer ones need a screwdriver to remove
use long nose pliers to twist and pull to remove the larger ones

Thanks for the info guys. I just finished replacing the globes in my AU Forte.

Just for the record, I didn't have to unplug the wiring to the dash. I just lowered the steering wheel to make some room and pulled the dash cluster out without disconnecting the loom.

The globes are only available as globe and holder from Ford. You won't find them at the servo or auto parts store (they're the size of a large grain of rice). The Ford part number is "ER 10B765 D" - you need two and they cost me ten bucks for the pair.

Cheers, Ed.

they are t5's.

you can get them in LED form as well from autobarn etc, and they just replace the halogen in the globe holder itself.
