Default Help me decide! New or Mod?!

ok so i am getting bored of driving around my standard AU and have come to the conclusion that i need to put some excitement into my driving experience!

the two cures for this boredom present themselves in the following form:
Buy New - am wanting an F6 or XR6T (BFMKII) or;
Mod the AU - look at getting forced induction for the Forte?! adding a bodykit (TS50) etc etc etc... alot of effort for reasonably small gain

With my new occupation i could easily finance both. The variables holding back my decision are a baby due in September and if i buy new having another loan hanging over my head for the next 3+ years.

I am leaning towards buying new but would love to hear your thoughts.

cheers,
Stevo

Why not work out how much you'd lose in depreciation on a new car over 3 years, and use that money to mod the AU. Based on a $50K car, after 3 years it's worth $25k (around 50%, maybe less), so that means you could spend $25k on the AU over the same time period, and be no worse off. Except that you will have a car worth whatever an AUs worth, and not the $25k of the BA. But it's more fun getting there in an AU.

Good points there. their really is nothing wrong with the forte it drives fine and despite initial problems after purchase has not caused me any grief lately.

And i do want to own something different! something not everyone has (XR6T very common) but it just seems buying new saves alot of time. I dont much like the front of the AU XR's sorry Sanjay, would rather a T series front, though the 8 with 220KW i would love.

My thoughts are maybe i create a Supercharged Forte?! but is it fair to say that the gains possible from a car such as a forte are quite minimal?

the other problem i have is my location, basically it means using any freight company (for bodykits etc) adds quite substantially to the initial costs.

the problem with supercharging a forte is that its still going to have the shitty grey interior, cloth trim, manual wind down windows, and pathetic little brakes...once you start upgrading everything i think its clear that youre staring at a money pit.

ive decided im going to upgrade the brakes on my XR6 and be done with it - nothing else needs doing, i dont have a feeling i need more power. if i did, i would keep saving for an AU3 XR8 220 (AU1 XR8 - 10kw over the VCT? not worth it) or an XR6 turbo...but if i wanted the XR6 turbo itd have to be with the ZF 6speed box...and all of a sudden its a very expensive venture! :p

Ok, as long as you swap me the T3 once you have it for my XR8. Man this is getting complicated.

Don't want to sell it full stop, but would rather it go to a home of a fellow enthusiast (and potentially someone I can buy it back from when time permits!)

Depends on what you want.

Do you want:
1) something thats fast?
2) something thats unique?
3) something thats in the long run, a cheaper outlay?
4) all of the above?

If you picked option 1, then go for a xr6t as they respond well to mods.
If you picked option 2, then look at supercharging the AU. No one will suspect an AU to be quick and you will scare some potentially quick cars out there.
If you picked option 3, depending on how far you want to take it, the xr6t's are getting cheap and for little outlay extra you can have a street weapon, but you will blend in with everyone else.
If you picked option 4, go for Jim's T3. It screams sex on wheels, you dont have to spend anything on it, its quick as, and it should hold reasonable resale.

These are just my opinions though. And no doubt will be scrutinized by others here.

Exactly what bluepower said...

Do you want to stand out? Go fast? Or both?

Personally, I'd stick with the AU, i have a 347 AUII GHIA and the looks i get from people is more then worth it, sure buying a BA and doing the "boostinjectorsandedit" would see a big improvement very quickly but i pose one question..

What'd be more origional? a 300rwkw BA XR6T, or a 250rwkw boosted AU, I know what I'd be choosing, despite being 50rwkw down....

Keep the AU and make it the car you want, dont spend $$$$$ and buy a car like everyone else already has...
