Yes this is another one of those annoying 'please help me my car isn't starting'. I thought they were annoying, until it happened to me :(.
Well i got home after a weekend out, was planning on moving my car ot of the garage for my parents' BA and.... my car didn't start. I'll cut to the chase, i try to start it, it ticks over three times and then it randomly stops even when the key is still fully turned. I have checked the battery and used another one thats full and it keeps doing it, i have left the battery disconnected for two minutes and it still isn't working and i have decided to come to you before i annoy my mates to come and help. Any info would be much appreciated! Thanks! EDIT. i have tried a brief search for a problem like mine but nothing is coming up. |

auto or manual? if auto, does it make any difference in neutral? i'd also be checking earths, try running another wire from the battery to the block and see if that makes any difference. failing that, get a hammer and give the starter a few good hits, the bendix may be stuck inside the solenoid and not moving, giving it a decent bash help free it up sometimes

Im sort of thinking the starter solenoid too.... but... when you say you tried another battery that's fine, are you sure that battery you tried is rated large enough for the AU ?. what makes me say this is, I had a similar problem a while back and i tried using the pretty much brand new battery out of my womans Magna (even tried jump starting off it), had no luck at all and was getting the 3 clicks as you mention. Then before resorting to more stuff , i tried one of those portable emergency jump packs and it started no worries. My old battery with the multimeter was reading fine and fully charged too , but in the end i got a new battery rated for the AU and it's been fine ever since. Gl

I am sorta thinking its your battery or terminals.Turn on the headlights and try kicking it over.Dom they dim right down?

Finally worked out why.
The battery was playing tricks on us! Well the first thing i did was check the battery, so i put the lights on so dash lights came on then i put highbeams on, did this about 5 times and it was fine so i thought it wouldn't of been the battery. we did a few things to look at wires ect and checked terminals, everything was fine and so we decided to take a break so i turned the music on to show my mate this crackeling sound coming thru the sub and then i turned it up to about 15/35 and then the headunit turned off. i was like wtf. my mate was like ahhhh i see your battery is completely screwed, we turned the lights on and the battery didnt even have the power to turn on the low-beams. Boy we were relieved. The crackelling noise was because the big 750watt 4 channel amp drew the last of the batterys power and it was starving for power. and for the record the other battery i used was also flat but i didnt check the lights and all with it, gosh bad luck lol. Its strange because my AU has never had any problems that were the naturally the cars fault (mechanics fault, fixed now) and i thought my luck ran out. They live up to their standards, AU's keep going and going and going. Well we solved it! Lucky it wasn't anything bad but a new battery. Thanks for your help once again guys! Couldn't of done it without you. I owe you all a slab, well d near me :P. |
