Default XR6 VCT exhaust systems, and options

Gday,

Firstly, just wondering whether the exhaust on my VCT is correct. It goes from single cat to single muffler, then splits to twin system going through two large mufflers just in front of the IRS, then i thought it merged back to the single final muffler. But looking under the car this morning i discovered that only one of the pipes goes through the last muffler and out the back, the other pipe passes the muffler and kicks to the side and terminates, its just plugged off : It all looks factory so im assuming thats just how they were. The only reason i can see they made it like that was too make it quitter (larger volume, but has single tip). I've never seen anything like it before.

Secondly, what are my best options with an aftermarket system? From what i can find on the net theres a few different options including single-twin 2.25" systems and single 2.5" systems. The car came with stainless x-force extractors aswell, so i will be mating the system to them.

I know that the single 2.5" is a good option for a I6 with solid rear end, but im not sure about the VCT and IRS exhausts

Cheers,
Luke

Mine standard was a single 'sports' 2.5" press bent system, ive got comp 4480's highflow metal cat, and the stock catback with no resonator, its got a really nice and loud note to it, soudns awsome at wot. Once i have money to spare (DAMNED REGO!!), im gunna change it to this 2.5" mendral bent catback ive got in the shed waiting, but i wanna put a nice aftermarket muffle on it.

ive heard of vct's having exhaust like yours though, dunno if it came standard or optional or sumtin, but mines an AU2.

Yeah I have a mate with a VCT XR6 with exactly what you described.

He replaced his with a 2.5" Lukey (I think) system. Sounds fine.

Today i went to Carline and was told Lukey dont make an exhaust for the VCT !?

How long ago did your mate get his? If u know. They may have discontinued the 6cyl IRS zorst's or something, which sucks.

edit: Bugger, just noticed u sed (i think).

I have always had the opinion that the Lukey systems sound betterer than say a Redback etc. Just a lot more crisp, whereas the Redbacks sound more farty, if that makes sense.

Yeah it is normal. I think JC said once that they used the XR8 exhaust and for the VCT they just plug off each end. Maybe ford ordered in Bulk and got a bigger discount doing it this way :

It aint the XR8 exhaust, the 'unused' side of the twin system is smaller after the large centre muffler in mine. After that muffler it starts tapering down and at the end where its plugged its lucky to be an inch in diameter. The 8 twin system of course should be the same diameter for each pipe for the length of the system. If it were equal size, i'd plumb it into the last muffler and make use of it.

Sounds bloody tough for a 6! Gotta ask how loud it is with your daily driving? Is there any drone? Do you have both the main muffler and rear resonator on it or is it straight through?

I'll stop with the questions. :P

3" is WAY to loud but is pretty wicked if your after obnoxious pure performance style haha

i have a 2.5" press bent system with a single muffler.. it is fairly droney inside under acceleration but when cruising its perfectly fine

deb has a 2.5" press bent with 1 muffler and 1 resonator and it sounds fine

The vid is of my old Lukey exhaust, 2.5 inch cat back, single rear muffler and thats it, as I thought thats what people wanted to hear. There was also no drone and has been my favourite sounding exhaust I have ever heard on an AU.

As for 3 inch, its not that loud, hardly obnoxious, seeing as blackers fairlane is nearly as loud. The only time it gets loud is if you put the boot in and it sounds like a saloon car. At 100 you can barely hear it though. Over 4000rpm, it splits the cavities in you ears.
