From what I have read, on the AU's the oil pressure is either on or off, and wont give accurate readings of any pressure drops etc For example in my AU no matter how i am driving (hammering it or idle) it always reads the same
Thus why i am looking at putting in a decent electronic gauge

Is it an AUI?
I believe there was a fault with earthing in the AUI's and this caused the described issue, Surely someone else can confirm... Usually AU oil pressure guages dont move, really accurate things... Unless of course there is an isue with the sender etc

Drove home from work tonight in 44 degree heat & about a km from home waiting for the lights. The oil pressure dropped in the red on the gauge & the oil warning light came on... Didn't know what to think as I only changed new oil & filter on Monday???? Any ideas what could be wrong??? Gauge, sender, oil pump, no idea????? Help..... : |

From what I have been told the series 1 AU have a real oil pressure gauge so it should be pretty right but series 2 and 3 have a dummy gauge and it won't give you the actual oil pressure, just a normal reading.

What Viscosity oil did you use?
Although it could be the sender, try disconnecting the wire from the sender, and clean any crap off it, otherwise replace the sender, or hook up a mechanical gauge and make sure oil pressure is ok, in which case it is the sender, otherwise could be the pump, not sure how often they die on I6's?

ok guys
the series 1 AUs have a REAL oil pressure guage the S2-3 have on or off ones the AU1's have inadequate grounding to the engine block so the sensor reads all wonky somtimes (mine does it usually with the aircon on at the lights) if you run a new big fat cable from the Neg battery terminal to a bolt on the engine block it will be all fixed
