Took the key fob for a swim at Bondi, I've swum with the key fob before and by all reports I thought it was waterproof.
This time I got a heap of salt water in it and couldn't revive it after a Metho bath. Anyone know where you can get a fob cheaply.

Ebay. You can find genuine new ones on there for a good price. Have bought one myself off there.

Not sure if you meant to swim with the key or not, but either way, are you aware that the key comes apart (I'm talking about LS focus key)?. ie you can seperate the metal part of the key from the electronics fob. you just stick a normal key or screwdriver into the little slot and prize the head of the key off. It sits on like a cap on the fob.
I only found out about this when I asked about getting another (metal part only) key cut that I could take surfing. The guy just said "whats wrong with just doing this" and showed me how to seperate the key from the fob as described above. I'd had the car about 6 months and never realised. |

The key blade and half banana shape base dont really tie onto the drawstring that well. Plus I've done it before ok.

The remote you program in with a series of button presses, door closings and seatbelt buckles; with the key proximity chip for ignition, you can add a 3rd in so long as you have 2 other keys present (at least for the LR). A locksmith cuts the key.
When I get another key and once I work out how, I'll do a tutorial video.
