It's a comp - the tops times will compete at Silverstone in the UK, the winner going on to race in some series over there.

So...after playing the demo it's obvious there is still A LOT of work to do.

The car model is top notch though!

Aside from that, it's typical Gran Turismo style racing.

You should never say NFS and Gran Turismo in the same thread...

After playing and currently being ranked 298, I must admit it is meh. I am sorry to say but Forza 3 is miles ahead. So with that I will predict either we will get a mediocre typical GT, or it will be another 2 years while they make it better. The controls are not responsive enough, they are using either the analouge stick or x and [] for accel and brake. Yes this can be changed, which I did to the triggers but there was no real ability to accel and brake gently, unlike Forza which used the triggers and the softer or harder you pushed determined how hard or soft the car accel or braked.

I do not have a steering wheel.

The release date is March 2010, so if this demo does not grab your attention the full version wont have to many more differences.

Must admit thats one thing I like about xbox/forza, the trigger function. But as you said a steering wheel setup would fix that.

Funnily enough Ive always found using the simple control pad to be the easiest and im just as fast with it, I dont even use the thumb sticks.

I think the full game will be top notch, GT series always are. Vast array of vehicles, being able to modify them...Not to mention GT5 will be the first in the series to include damage.

I think the problem with GT5 is the hype surrounding it. Everyone is expecting much more.

I think the problem is that they have been so long in development that everyone's expectations are that it will be better than their competitiors (i.e. Forza). Problem is that while they have been pushing polygon counts on their car models, company's like Turn 10 (Forza) have been focusing on the actual game play. That and actually releasing a game... twice since GT4.

Still they will sell a bucket load on the name alone.

I'm really enjoying it, just ranked 40th overall. The physics are greatly improved over GT5: Prologue

ok guys...n00b question here but the only thing I can see for GT5 academy to download is a "video" that is 200MB. Is that it?

Can you still race in it? Just got my PS3

I'm not sure?

The demo download should be like a black/gray logo just saying GT5 Academy or something...

I'd imagine if the GT academy promotion thingy is over, the demo would be pulled? No idea!

I was told on the weekend by a game distributor that GT5's latest delay was due to it being now made into 3d, for the new wave of 3d televisions that are about to hit the market.
