Who says QLD is broke

I got a speeding fine today from one of the work rockets.

"Exceed Speed Limit by less than 13km/h" which is the lowest level offence.

The fine, $666, due to the vehicle being registered to an organisation.

No where on the infrigment notice does it say that if you declare who was driving you only have to pay $133.

The driver admitted the offence, being a speed camera on a steep downhill grade in Buderim (profitable place I am sure) so I had to enquire how to get the fine reduced.
It appears they are far more interested in the money than the points.

A vehicle registered to an organisation is always going to cost more because there's no-one to assign demerit points to.
This has been the case for several years now.

Did you actually read the first post?

Up until recently the notices said you are fined $ X and if you do not delare the driver then the fine will be $ 5X.

The latest one just says the fine is $ 5X and gives no indication that if you declare the driver it will reduce (which it will).

But surely it doesn't take much for them to figure out that it's hardly the organisation that's at fault... last time I checked it was difficult for an organisation to drive a car, let alone speed in one.

In addition, it can't be that hard for said organisation to let the revenue raisers know who was driving the car at the time of the offence. Ergo, fine to be paid by the driver, points on their licence, end of story.

Yeah, but if they pinged the actual driver, half the parliament, judicial and police service, would have to walk to work.

Not quite true, Mr Hardware.....

A lot of places now require you to book the pool vehicle/s electronically via Outlook, which means the company you work for can identify EXACTLY who had the car at the time. The keys are all kept by the Receptionist, and she won't hand 'em over until she checks you have booked the car/s.

We've had two staff get done, and both were identified initially via the electronic booking.... once they were identified and asked where they had driven the vehicles, they came clean and paid the fine themselves. Our company does NOT pay the fines for individual drivers, so this system is a good way of keeping staff honest and under the limit, as they KNOW they will be expected to pay the fines.

It's the same in SA, often the fine for company registered vehicle is $300 more.

as for your ticket, I always thought it came out saying fine was X and because it company it will be 5x X, interesting they dont even let you know that by doing the correct legal process you will lower the fine and just cop a certain number of points.

i definately hate her, its great when dad get's the rego in the mail for his cars down there, both V8 utes and $613 for the year and then get mine at $1016 for 1 v8 ute, its gone up three times since blight has come in and the rego has gone up

In QLD i always believed it was like someone getting caught speeding in someone elses car. So with the Business they could cop the heavily inflated fine or they could nominate the driver at fault and then the driver would cop the normal fine and points as usual.

As said though they may have dropped the lower fine to make a few extra bob. Just like dropping the 10% buffer for speeding offences in general.

Just wait till someone figures out that by increasing the fines for speeding, they will make even more money!

I got done in a truck in December on my birthday of all days
90 in an 80 zone which until last year was a 90 zone I can hear the cash registers now
any way the boss got a $666 fine but on the back there is a stat dec you can sign and cop it your self which I had to do and the points loss
Last week in the Courier Mail headline news companies copping $666 fines for employees and then getting the employees to pay the fine and not lose the points
gee thats only been happening for ten years but let the paper make a big deal of it
then the minister goes on to say it is not happening and companies are doing the right thing yeah right

I am fully aware of this having spent thousands of hours behind the wheel of QG's.
I am also aware that most taxis are registered to an organisation. In this case QT sends out a fine to the organisation and still provides a space on the back to nominate a driver. In some cases where losing a bit of money is no where near as serious as losing your licence, this scenario of a company-registered vehicle can prove beneficial.

I'm on your side of the divide, but I'm planning an escape Wednesday night. We are crossing the tweed at 11.00pm under the cloak of darkness and expect to be partying at the leagues club by midnight. If you are coming make sure you bring enough cash and prepaid envelope to pay for the several speed camera fines you will receive between home and Coolangatta.
