Default Help power window stuck down :(

Hey guys I'm stuck at some shops with my passenger electric window not goig up. I've flicked both the passenger front door switch and drivers switch about a zillion times but to no avail. I can hear the motor engaging to put the window down but it won't engage to send the window up :( it's been pretty wet hear and I need to leave the car outside tonight. Any ideas???

Thanks

Press the "down" button 32 times.... Then try...

(on the switch you used to put the windows down..)

EDIT: Just re read and saw you can hear the motor, scrap the above...

From what I've seen there are a number of people on AFF that couldn't count that high

Is the window completely down? No glass sitting above the door line?

If there is, try giving it a gentle pull while the someone is pushing the button to go up... Might just be caught in the rail. Remember, dont jerk, just pull.

Could be number of things ... it sounds like the motor wants to work ... once you have to door trim off you can disconnect the motor and see if it runs without it hooked up to the regulator .... but I am thinking it may be the regular is bound up completely.

They use wires to run the window up the frame ... I'd say they have bound themselves up in the reg and it is stuffed.

Just had the same thing in the Territory ... boy that was a fun job in the rain.

Hmmmm.... does the electric motor 'free rev' (up or down) or just go 'chunk' as if it cant go up or down any further.

I shoot mainly Single/Western Action & some hunting. Been wanting to get into IPSC, but havent had the time. I barely have enough to do S/A. Was Junior club champion for three years running for just the pistol section at my old SSAA club

Nothing. When I push for it to go up, nothing. It does the chubkthig if I want it to go down but it obviously can't. I'm totally lost with what it could be.

If you are getting clunking sounds then it sould like the regulator then.

Nah with the noise Simon, you know the sound it makes when the window is fully down and you push down again and it makes that clunk or thud. Well it does that whn pushig down.

But when I push up, nothig. Silence. The motor doesn't engage at all.

Well, sounds as if there is power to it, Could be the winder itself, or the steel cable that is used, has somehow come loose, but it would free rev if that were the case. I'd say this is a pull the door trim off & inspect the winding mechanism job.

Good work on the shooting stats.

looking thru some service manuals n stuff and it could be a wiring issue. if the window works one way then the motor is fine. merely a wiring job. just gota find the wire!!

Could be the switch itself pull the switch out and remove it rom the trim, disconnect the plug and then pull appart the switch it may just need a clean! thats all that was wrong with mine. Do a search if you want theres heaps of info on how to clean the contacts for the switches.

After cleaning them twice i just bought all new switches. And even after that one of my switches plays up after about two months and its hardly ever even touched cause its a back door switch!

Also the rubbers might need some lubing up! Do the windows sound like they struggle sometimes when youre putting them up? they lube them with spray on silicone, just put a sheet in the door and close the door on it to stop over spray the spray from the best angles you can.

Hope this helps

PS i think the press it 32 times is a total G up! if the contacts are earthed out and black then pressing them 32 times isnt going to do anything!

so i was driving over to my parents place this morning so i could use my dads tools and i was like i should just swap some switches around and see if it works...

anyway i got there and was so keen to get cracking i ripped the door trim off, was going over all the wiring and i was like (*^&^% i didnt even check the switch. so i pulled apart the switch, cleaned it again, reassembled it. No Bingo.

so i got a switch out of the passenger rear, put it in and hey presto, it worked. im like *&%*&%*(%& why didnt i do that originally.

so i put the dodgy switch into the passenger rear... and it works.

you tell me??? nfi. at least my windows work now :

From my own experiences it sounds like you still have a problem with the swich.

Dd you reassemble the slider correctly when you had the switch apart?
Did you reconnect the harness securely?
Have you tried swapping over a switch from another door?

Old tutorial showing correct assembly sequence Here

Forgot to mention - you need to do both the switch on the door you have a problem with and the corresponding one on the drivers master panel - shared circuit issue on the AU.....

Cheers

I have a similar issue and to save starting a new thread i'll ask here as its relevant.

Took the car to the auto elec's and had them look at the passengers window, both drivers panel and the passengers switch wouldnt make it go up or down. There didnt even seems to be power going to it. He cleaned the switch for the passengers and hey presto! It works, tried it from the drivers side and nothing, cleaned the switch and still the same result. Any ideas?

Well I gave in and went to an auto elec, he basically cleaned the switch and hey presto, tried the drivers side from the main control panel, nothing, tested everything which seemed to check out however even after cleaning it still the same issue. He even eventually charged me $20, said to come back when I had the cash and he'd go right through it, however he wouldn't specifically say what he thought the issue was apart from the switches were worn.

Default Re: Help power window stuck down :(

I started having problems with my AU2 XR6 a couple of months back. The switch assembly does all 4 windows. The drivers window only would stay down. If I jiggled the switch enough times eventually it would go up. No noises. Definitely not sticking in the runners.

Then my AU2 SR wagon drivers window stayed down yesterday. The switch assembly only does the front 2 windows. Managed to get it up once. Then down again. And it stayed down. Also not sticking and no noises.
So I pulled out the switch. Swapped the plugs over and the drivers window was now working. Used some 1500 sandpaper on the outside of the contacts that mate with the plug. Then couldn't be bothered trying to sand the rest so just sprayed the contacts and plugs with electrical contact spray. Didn't pull the switch out and spray those contacts. Swapped the plugs back, connected it and everything is now working.

The XR6 switch is quite different when you remove it with the contacts. I sprayed what I could see but also removed the actual drivers front switch and sprayed the contacts as well. Connected it and it is working too.
