Default Time of the year to buy and sell cars

G'day Guys,

I am planning to sell my ED XR8 and upgrade to a 3 year old Landcruiser Prado (i know i know, but i need a 4wd for camping and carrying load etc).

I was wondering weather people think there is a better or worse time of year to buy and sell.

The XR8 will be sold privately and the Prado will come from a dealer second hand.

I was thinking late in the year leading up to christmas so i can use the new car for summer.

Thoughts?

Cheers

Stewart

I would suggest selling between August - October . Tax returns are starting to trickle out, sun starting to shine again, people are in a better mood to purchase. Any later and Christmas is just around the corner.

But of course if a mate comes along in the meantime, go for it.

Good luck.

Agreed. That, and it's what my mates and I call " p-plater season " either a majority of kids turning 18 are on their P's or getting them. That and those 21+ are coming off them.

Theres plenty of cashed up 18-21 year olds who would grab an older xr8 regardless of the law.

Personally I think there isnt a time as such - if you've got the price right the car will sell.

Sell your car when the demand for it is high, and buy the car you want when other people are not looking for that. Eg: if you were selling an economical two wheel drive, sell it when fuel prices are really high and the weather is so good that people never have to worry about traction, and buy your 4x4 then too! If you were selling a 4x4 or V8, do it when fuel prices are at the lowest. So on a Tuesday, but no later than 4pm LOL

I've never had any problem selling or buying any car ever, and i've done so in February, May, June, July, August & December

The December one i did on the 22nd and i got 5 calls in the one day about it, it sold same day. Provided you're not pricing yourself out of the market, you're fine. And if the prices are high for the car you're selling, chances are the price will be high for the car you're buying.

Just do it at any time, it doesn't matter.
