Default What suround sound system do you have?

As per topic, what home theater audio system to you guys run? I'm thinking of upgrading since I got my PS3...

At the moment I've got a Pioneer 5 stack dvd player with built in amp and 5.1... (dunno the model but it was built in 2002) it's not cutting it no more because I can't plug the PS3 derictly into it with digital audio leads... So at the moment I'm thinking of getting a I.R Digital Audio to Coxial Digital audio adaptor (my amp does have digital coax imput), upgrading speakers (in my amp and power them) and then towards the end of the year upgrading to a new decent amp...

Or 2nd option is the Logitech (unsure on the model) THX certified 5.1 system... Fairly decent unit I have a mate who has one, but I think I'd rather spend that $400 on decent speakers (I know decent quailty I'm looking at ALOT more than $400)... and when the cash flow allows get a 3D amp that supports 7.2... A little bit of overkill for in my room considering I'm in share accom but I'll still have it when I move out...

So what do you guys think?

Might tack on the end of this, can anyone recommend a cheapish (~$400) 5.1 system that is reasonably small?

Just want something better than normal TV speakers, but don't have the luxury of much room or budget

Can be bought from places like MSY for just under $400 and is fairly decent...

the Logitech Z-5500's aren't that flash, when you compare them to what you could get yourself second hand or $400 on eBay...might not get as much bass but youll get a much nicer clearer sound (i have 5500's and a proper audio setup too...so speaking from experience)
Currently my favourite setup is just a simple 2.1 setup, Denon Amp Wharfedale Modus 8 fronts (they have been rebuilt and customized by an audio engineer and just have SOOO much Bass!!!) and a DB Dynamics Polaris II sub. kicks the living crap outta the 5500's!

There are a few Yamaha systems that are really really nice, little cub sat speakers and a nice little control unit with a good sub but i can't remember the model number! they can be had for like $180ish second hand... now to try and remember the model...

even a half decent 2 channel stereo by panasonic or sony for the under 400 bracket would be better cheap 5.1's are bout as useful as flyscreen on a submarine.

i can vouch for this but
http://www.sony.com.au/product/ht-ddwg700
got an older version in my bedroom an gets along alrighty for 600 bucks

yamaha, denon, pioneer and marantz are all great and wharfdale speakers are good to, just depends on wether your prepared to pay for them...which at the moment i aint lol

I have a panasonic thing. Got it new n 2008, it was $799 the week before christmas, the week after it was $450. The best thing was my insurance company paid for it as we had been flooded in early september. I have never once used it as a dvd player as you can't turn off upscaling so the picture was crap. It has a digital in, so I use it as an amp for my foxtel, PS3 and 360. It actually has really good sound.

Do you mean the Z-5500's?
http://www.logitech.com/en-au/speake...rs/devices/224

Awesome, awesome unit, mate has a set hooked up to his PC in a smallish room, well powerful and very decent quality sound.

I personally have the old X-530 Logitech setup because I couldn't afford the 5500's, but I do strongly recommend them as they are a brilliant unit.

There the ones Rick... They are awesome! But IMO nothing beats having the nice big chucky speakers not to sure about satalite speakers and them logitech ones, housemate of mine has a logitech setup in the lounge and I don't think the quaility is "that" fantastic...

My current setup still cranks but does have its downfalls...

I have the Z5500's running from a dedicated HTPC to a 50" plasma, bang for buck they are awesome I am not using the speakers as such and am running JBL's inbuilt into the walls of my house, its more than capable of getting the entire room to vibrate.

I've got the Sony muteki as well, for the price of the new ones though you could do a lot better in the terms of quality.

Still a nice unit, looks nice with my 42" Sony Bravia.

Who's got a popcorn C-200.
Best gadget I've ever bought...plays everything. even blueray.

I'm still using my Sony VPL VW10HT lcd projector. The picture is still fantastic.
(native widescreen 1366x768) going on 12 years old!

I'm reading up on 3D projectors at the moment.
Not in a great hurry to upgrade but was thinking of upgrading my Sony Amp (140 wattsx5)

It's a few years old now so it doesn't do the HIDEF audio from bluray (or BR ripps).
I've since learnt that I will need to get an amp which supports HDMI 1.4a.

There's various benefits to this over the previous HDMI. Since they're starting to come out now, it's silly buying the obsolete standard. Unless you're not really interested in 3D or Hidef audio, etc.

Sold my speakers recently and got some nice Sonance inwalls (first THX cert inwall speakers). The SWMBO wanted a new minimalist look...

Nice setup JimNiki, nice clean look in a multipurpose room. Neat intergration.
I only just sold my Sony 11HT on ebay for $400 after 6000+ good reliable hours. Cost me 9k 10yrs ago. Haven't things become cheaper.

What size screen are you using?

Anyway my surround setup is currently 7.1 running

Rotel 1056 receiver
Rotel RB1080 amp 2ch.
Rotel RMB1075 amp 5ch.
Rotel RDV1060 cd player
Samsung bluray player

Klipsch RF7 mains
Klipsch RC7 centre
Klipsch RS7 rears
Mission inceiling r'surrouds
HSU VTF2 12"subwoofer.

I built a dedicated light controled home theatre when i built my house a few years back. Put a lot of planning into the contruction of it. Virtually sound proof except for the huge LF.

It is my 2nd passion behind cars.

Can you tell??

Woa JimNiki, nice living room!! Bachelor? if so, Epic bachelor pad lol. Just needs an entire wall of mirrors lol

I've got a DVD/5.1 Panasonic system hooked up to my PS3. Has been great for my bedroom (3 speakers+sub at TV, 1 speaker either side of the bed) though i'm not sure how great it would be in a larger living room. It would be about 7 years old now too..

i got a Samsung DVD/5.1 surround sound system from good guys. got it for $500 reduced from $650. they are now selling a bluray version for a about $690. comes with a ipod dock too!

but because i have a PS3 didnt bother me. the connections arent great, but playing call of duty now is insane!!!

HDMI from ps3 to tv, and optical from ps3 to surround sound, and hdmi from surround sound to tv for dvd. sounds great. looks great, will get a pic and for the price, cant complain! Sub is behind the lights and wireless rear speakers!

edit: not as s****y as some, but its my bachelor pad
