hello guys im building a mk2 four door escort with a ba falcon straight 6 engine and drive line in it, what upgraded shocks struts should i use and where do i get them?

cmon someone has to know a company who makes stronger front struts to suit mk2 ford escort but can handle the extra weight of a ba falcon motor implant?

what are you going to use the car for in the end?
Direct replacement... Mk2 2L struts with coil overs and a decent shock will do the job, some will nominate a capri (GRP4) strut will be better as it has a larger stub axle and they are still being made Most V8 Capri conversions still use the Capri strut..... These can be sourced from a number of UK rally suppliers depending on budget |

hey thanks ill try and source this out
direct replacement would be good will the capri ones be direct replace? it will be an everyday drive when completed just want to make sure there strong enough to take the weight of the engine? |

Riding on the ragged edge of technical limits for engineering under the National Code of Practice -
Applying the above formula: 4 door Escort Ghia (heaviest sedan for that model) 1,003kg, so 4 x 1,003kg = 4,012cc So the BA "Barra" engine at 3,984cc only just squeaks in - chassis set up will be interesting; are you going to be posting a thread of the build in the Projects section? Cheers James |

so what does this mean the engine capacity will be just under the national standard limit of engines put in this chassis. how are people doing the 5.0l v8 conversions and getting them registered.
i am going to take it to a engineer for chassis work so i can register it but its gonna cost so much. i can weld, just dont know enough about the chassis side to do any thing my self. does any one know anyone to talk to bout what would need to be done? the more i do the cheaper this build will be. i might do a thread a little later on in the build just got the engine and trans sitting in so far. i had my lap top stolen and lost all the pics from early in the build though. thanks |

You really need to speak to your chosen compliancing engineer to identify what they need you to modify/replace/add to your chosen chassis so as they will certify the modifications. Ideally you should be talking to your chosen engineer during your concept and design phase to avoid spending considerable time, effort and $$$$ to build a car you can not drive on the roads..... i have talked to the engineer looking over the build before i started he seems to have no prob with it as long as a referred chassis place does the chassis work which he has organized. i have also submitted the forms to motor transport and they say it should be fine.
i just need to keep the cost down. ill set up a build thread soon cheers for all your help. |
