Default LS Focus & E10 Fuel

Just wondering if anybody knows whether a 2005 LS Focus would be able to run E10 fuel in it with no detrimental side effects, if anyone has had any experiences or the like.

I'm thinking of running a tank of the E10 Premium 100 (100 Octane) instead of the VPower/BP Ultimate I run in it now to see how I go, but if its a bad idea due to the ethanol content I'll give it a miss.

Isnt E10, Just PULP 90. If so, then yes. Not sure if you can get Octane 100 with no ethanol. Highest I have seen is PULP98 which works on my LS Focus.

Where have you seen PULP100?

So what RON is E10?, is it RON91, RON95 or RON98? I'm confused.

Basic E10 fuel is something of a mystery.

Touted as being better than 91 as ethanol is an octane booster (94RON seems to be what it SHOULD be at I think), however I have found E10 advertised at anything from 91 to 95RON.

What a joke.....

in Qld the 91 +ethanol is junk, engine pinks gutless thirsty.
There is a service station chain here called Freedom Fuels -they have a 95 + ethanol. Car runs ok on that. They also have a 98+ethanol (all these are 10% ethanol) - I can discern no difference apart from the 98 being far more expensive.
To summarise
91+ ethanol=crap
95+ethanol=ok
98+ethanol= waste of money
I do 900 kms a week so have experiemented over 3 years with our 2006 2.0 litre manual focus.

This is the fuel I'm talking about: http://www.unitedpetroleum.com.au/index.asp?pgID=65

Its a 100RON fuel with 10% Ethanol, the 98RON fuels I have been using are zero ethanol.

I do believe E10 fuels are available in different RON's but the one I'm specifically talking about is the 100RON one.

Casabonka, judging by
This Link , it does look to be an SA/Vic thing only at this stage.

Thanks for the thread link DZFord, I tried a search for "LS Focus E10" but came back with no results hence why the new thread. Always appreciated.

thanks for the link Riksta - funny enough I like 2 minutes away from the only one in NSW!
Do you notice any difference with that fuel at all?

I haven't used it in the Focus yet so can't comment on that.

However, in the AU I had, when I used it, it seemed to love it a little more than the 98RON fuels, may have just been a placebo effect though! And being E10, it did burn up a little quicker than the normal fuel.

I didn't use it heaps, reason being the nearest servo's that sell it are about 20 minutes from my place so didn't make special trips, however if I needed fuel and was in the area I used to give it a tank.

If the stuff is going to be detrimental to the Focus I won't use it, however if it can't do any harm, I might make a trip next time I need fuel and give it a tank to see how it goes.

I can't comment on 100ron E10 in Focus's, but my EB 4.0 makes close to 6-7rwkw more than 98ron. Haven't had any ethanol problems.

according to the manual it states that it is safe to run E10

it also says that it can run as low as 91 octane fuel but recommends 95 for best performance/economy

in practice it seems everyone's had mixed experiences with the percentage of ethanol and octane

at least with the servos around my area, BP Ultimate 98 seems to be the best balance of economy and performance, while Mobil 98 seems to have best economy at the expense of performance while Shell V-Power/Caltex Vortex were very peaky and worst fuel economy.

Have not yet tried anything higher than 98 in my car, though I remember seeing 100 octane containing 10% ethanol at one of the independents in Wollongong. Shell also used to do v-power racing which was 100 octane with 10% ethanol but it is no more unfortunately

Not an LS, but an LV 4 speed automatic. I noticed it was pinging ever so slightly over 3000 revs in 3rd gear on 91 fuel. Decided to try it on 95, and the pinging has stopped, and I've got a suspicion the fuel consumption has improved. It could be even enough of a fuel saving to make up the difference in price.

Anyone had a similar experience?

When I bought my LV (second hand) it obviously had 91 octane fuel in it because it pinged. I switched to 98 octane and the problem went away. You'll find in the manual it recommends 95 or higher, but it can run on 91.
