Default Reintroduction of V8 on FG Falcon

Hi,

I haven't seen any news or items posted here recently regarding the reintroduction of the V8 in the FG Falcon. Last I heard was that there would still be an XR8 with the new 5.0L engine.

Does anyone have any updates?

Depends on what you want to call it ...... also been discussed around the traps but:

Coyote is the name of the basic engine platform from the states ...... Miami was the pilot name from FPV for the development of the S/C Coyote ...... BOSS is the outcome.

It ain't gonna happen. FPV has spent a lot of money on the Miami project and need all the V8 sales it can get.

Coyote was it's project name.

Ford NA use the boss term on a certain model Mustang. But it is considered a new age 'Boss'. Ford Australia/FPV have continued with the famous label. Even though the old 5.4 wasn't really a 'Boss'.

Or more precisely, how long are these two expected to run for unchanged?

I sure hope I'm wrong. I love my Falcons but the masses don't.

It's not the 80s/90s anymore. Although it seems Ford wish it were 1983 again by not having a V8 in their lineup.

And all this "they're working on it". Please. They have the engine. Just stick it in already....XR8 has a bettter name than GS. GS was always known as a poor mans GT.

Can you elaborate on what you mean about the staff comment?

Ford need to start being proactive or there won't be a factory in Australia.

By that I meant that FOA have an engine plant, local content of a V8 (or some of its components) contributes to the jobs of those employed there, a crate motor does not.

Precisely this. You can't just stick an engine in and sell it. It needs, a business plan, which entails, cost analysis, market strategy, sales projections.... not to mention the engineering side of it. The decision for forced induction of natural aspiration. And they can't just remove the supercharger from the Coyote's.

I heard the drive train from the Range Rover Evogue will be going in. 4.4L diesel and ZF 8 speeder.

The best hope for an XR8 is succession of FPV engines:

1) GS gives its engine to XR8 and gains the GT engine

2) GT gives its engine to GS and gains a 350KW engine

Can't, the ECU doesn't support four cam phasers.... not unless you want the 6.2 V8 for a quick and dirty XR8,
300Kw @ 5700 and 560 nm @3500....from a truck engine calibration....

Ute will be next. You dont put a massive investment into Ranger and keep a small volume stand alone model.

One Ford really means Ford as a reflection of Toyota. A large core of identical models world wide with a few select models for specific markets. Usually hero models for the home country.

Sorry guys if I seem angry. I AM angry.

We have great products but it just seems time and time again Ford keep making mistakes in marketing. We have a great V8 but nobody knows about it cos you have to pay $65000 + to get it. Who is accountable in Ford for the flagging sales?

If Ford release another version of the V8 ... (as there is already a GS/GT/GTE/GTP/GS UTE, let alone all the Turbo models to compliment these) .... how many would spend 50k's for an N/A XR8? C'mon now ...... not just talking about it on the internet but actually put there hands in and pull out a few thousand less than an S/C for a brand new, non demo N/A V8?

Wouldn't there be $10 - $15000 dollars difference between an XR8 and GS?

That's like saying no one will buy an N/A XR6 because for a few grand more people can get a Turbo.

I was asking the question .... the same as what Ford would be asking themselves. Who would buy one when the other options are available.

For an XR8 to be successful it would need to be priced similar to XR6T $47,000. To put a new engine into the XR8 would take development ... the XR6 had the development done .... 10 years or so ago which was at the right time using an engine that was built here for many years ...... different times today and even different when FPV committed to Miami.

So many said when the Miami project was in full swing that they would sell like hot cakes, everyone here was buying one and wanted a S/C engine that would woop everyones **** but when it came to the crunch .... everyone went silent and complained about the wheels and stripes.

Dont you think that in this climate when the fastest car produced in Australia is struggling along with the whole Falcon range that Ford would be doing the numbers?

I would go a N/A coyote XR8 for a few grand less then the GS any day but that's just me. You can't beat a tuff N/A V8 in my books
