Default Seat Covers for Leather

Hey everyone,

Ive got a FG XR6t ute with leather seats that i use for work (sparky) and i dont want to wreck the seats.

What seat covers are people using with leather that fit well and dont slide around.

Thanks
Matt

hey champ, im a sparky too, and have leather in the au xr8.. i just bought some pretty factory looking seatcovers, only cost around 40 bucks. they have around 4 tether points underneather that you can use to get it pretty tight. Its still gonna slip around a bit. Its not that bad though, and at least its just your drivers seat..

least us sparkies arent too dirty

Go the sparkies. I have leather seats in my EH, i got a size of the plastic stuff we wrap stuff in and just use that. Mind you i only drove the car to and from work. Not for work as in and out all day.

The neoprene ones are also good. They don't 'move around and are easy to clean.

Don't seatcovers (especially sheepskin) damage the leather?

Yes, you need to make sure that seat covers are especially made for side airbags. Just like the stitching in the seat trim is done in a special way to allow the airbag inflation, the seat cover stitching needs to allow the airbag to inflate (in the designed manner) as well.

Leather setas these days, only tend to have real leather on the A surface (anyhting you sit on), the other surfaces, tend to have what is called "companion" leather. Since all the trim for australian made cars is imported, no one has ever determined exactly what "companion" really means.

All seatcovers made like this have the designation 'A' on the end of them e.g. 60/25A is a seat cover to suit a high back seat with airbags.

I'd vote for neoprene, it's what wetsuits are made of. They fit snug and aren't that hot, or just stay away from the black ones.

I vote the neoprene ones as well. I have them in my RTV and I think they are the best seat covers I have ever had. The only negative thing I can say about them is they get a little hot on a hot day when you first get in the car.

Do a search for Inland Australia. They make neoprene seat covers and can knock them up in a couple of weeks.

I got some made and now don't need them, but they are for Mondeo.

Bummer. A left field thought if you are really keen to keep your original seat covers may be to go a leatherette replacement from Proseat. They are reasonably priced, durable, fit well and are easy to install. This way you don't need a seat cover, you can wipe it clean and they will still look like leather. When they eventually do wear (which will be ages) you can then reinstall your genuine seat trims. I have them on my ute and I am very happy with how they are going to date.

Just a thought if you still want the leather look without worrying about damaging your Ford leather.

if you are going to use it for work why would you get leather seats just to cover them up anyway?
I love leather seats, my calais had them and i drove that to work when i was working in the mines. No matter how dirty i was i only ever had to wipe them down and they were like new again.
