Default FPV ups GS price, slashes F6

From GoAuto.com.au today: http://www.goauto.com.au/mellor/mell...2578A30020EB4D

Prices up for volume-selling GS as FPV’s F6 turbo models take a $10K haircut
2 June 2011
By MARTON PETTENDY

FORD Performance Vehicles (FPV) has slashed about $10,000 from the price of its slower-selling F6 turbo-six sedan, just weeks after increasing the prices of its new GS blown-V8 sedan and ute models by $1000.

FPV lifted the price of its supercharged V8-powered GS manual and automatic sedan by 1.75 per cent to $57,990 plus on-road costs on May 11 – the same day GS manual and automatic ute prices were raised by 1.92 per cent to $52,990 plus ORCs.

Powered by a 315kW/545Nm 5.0-litre V8, FPV’s new entry-level GS sedan and ute models have taken advantage of the absence of an XR8 – or any V8 – model from Ford to attract exactly 300 buyers between their release in November last year and April this year.

So far in 2011, however, the GS twins continue to be outsold by the higher-performance 335kW/575Nm GT sedan range, which remains FPV’s volume-selling model ahead of the GS sedan and GS ute.

According to detailed VFACTS obtained by GoAuto, FPV has found a total of 233 GS customers to April this year, as well as 145 GT customers (up from 74 to April last year), 18 GT-E homes (up from eight) and 53 GT-P buyers (up from 11).

From top: FPV GS sedan and ute, FPV GT sedan, FPV GT-P sedan.

In stark contrast, sales of 310kW/565Nm turbocharged six-cylinder F6 models have plummeted, with Ford’s performance brand delivering just 66 F6 sedans (down from 84), eight F6-E sedans (down from 19) and three F6 utes (down from 43) to April.

In response, FPV last week slashed the base F6 sedan price from $67,890 plus on-road costs to just $59,990 drive-away, effectively matching the new $58,000 plus ORCs price of FPV’s cheapest sedan, the GS.

The unprecedented retail offer, which equates to a transaction price cut of about $10,000, is available at selected FPV dealers for a limited time.

“Sales of the F6 have slowed down since the launch of the supercharged V8 engine variants late last year,” FPV general manager Rod Barrett told GoAuto.

Despite fewer six-cylinder sales, strong V8 sales in April helped FPV sales increase by 24.5 per cent overall in the first four months of this year to 516 sales.

That is still well down on HSV’s January-April tally of 1003 sales (which itself is down from 1027 during the same period in 2010), including 278 ClubSports (down from 381 during the same period last year), 337 GTSs (up from 233), 52 HSV Tourers (up from 50), 78 Senators (up from 76) and 258 Maloo R8 utes – down from 287.

However, a full compliment of its entire model range should see FPV close its sizeable gap to HSV last year, when the hot-Holden franchise shifted 3215 Commodore-based models to FPV’s 874 Falcon-based models.

“After the GFC affected sales in 2009 and the transition to the new V8 last year, FPV is looking to reinvigorate sales in 2011,” said Mr Barrett.

“Retail figures to date have been extremely pleasing. Dealers are taking cars and the outlook is good, with the FPV GT continuing to be the number one selling vehicle, followed closely by the GS sedan and GS ute respectively.”

Good news if your in the market for a turbo 6, not so much if looking for a blown 8...

WOW they only sold 3 F6 utes??? Really?

I hope they keep the F6 alive and well. Its good to see the V8 is doing well though.

Limited time? It should become the norm, and probably will to keep stock moving.

Great time to buy a F6

I guess the release of a decent V8 for Ford is the catalyst it required to start selling reasonable amounts of V8 cars, which would have been lost to GMH or the T6 range.

I guess with a price increase for the GS, that would put an end to the "GS are selling slow" line?? You don't slash the F6 by 10K & put the GS up, if it was already selling slow??

Well, it is a 2010 plate!
Still, there is a real disconnect between the retail price and the driveaway price that Ford charges which makes resale look much worse (not that it is good) than it is. But an FG XR6 should be $44k driveaway according to RRP. They are advertised $10k less than that.

Smart move to trim the turbo F6 price. 77 sold in sedan/ute/f6e forms. 449 Supercharged V8s sold in the same timeframe.

Wow, so you get an F6 with the FPV body kit, Brembo brakes, high series ICC/premium sound/dual zone & FPV seats for the same price as a GS which has none of that. Not a bad time to be buying an F6!

Goes to show how much more desirable the V8 is over the T6, despite all the extra kit you get. I must admit if I had a budget of no more than $60k for a new Falcon I would buy a GS over the F6 and G6ET/XR6T. My head says thats crazy, but walking away from the blown 8 would eventually eat me up.

I guess that's a matter of opinion. I believe the F6 was never worth $67,890 plus ORC. Driveaway in WA was around $72k. High 50's to low 60's is what it was always worth. $5k more than a G6ET makes it exception value for money.

I wouldn't be too excited about the S/C V8 sales. 53 GT-P's, 18 GT-E's and 145 GT's indicate FPV should look at dropping prices of those models by $7500-10000 to stimulate sales.

I stand by my previous opinion FPV won't be around to release a 10th anniversary model unfortunately.

It's a great time to buy, I see dealers are selling brand new '11 stock Ranger XLT for $36,990 driveaway in WA.

same here, personally i could`nt care less wether it had a color screen or not, the bigger stoppers would be nice but can always spec them up later if need be.

Good for people wanting to buy a new F6 in the short term, bad for people trying to sell a second hand one.

Reason why F6 sales haev been so poor is the fact that they have not been building F6's...

If you want an F6 with options you basically have to order it...

I dont know what FPV's game is.. they could sell alot more cars then they do if they stocked them properly and were smart about it.

The best news is that the new V8 has lifted overall FPV sales by quite a margin, even excluding the GS [XR8].

Unless they are looking for a new car and looking in that price bracket, why would they?

if hsv had that engine everyone with the slightest interest in performance cars would know about it.
The people who i have talked to about it aren't just holden fans either a lot of them are people who traded in there ss for an xr6 turbo.
Its a shame because its an awesome engine that no one knows about

You could probably get the GS optioned with the colour screen for not a lot more than the F6 price, that's what I'd be buying if I was going new. Love my turbo 6, but the sound of the blown 8 (and being able to say you own a supercharged V8 ) would win out for me.

Only problem is it would likely creak and rattle like my XR6T. Needs all the extra nice noises it can get to drown out the quality-related ones

^^^ No, my GT-P is as tight as a drum and absolutly zero quality control problems...unlike my previous Viper F6 which had quite a few issues.

Biggest FPV dealer in N.Z. gave me a quiet heads up in March this year when I was looking at trading my F6 on a new SC FPV. He hadn't had a single inquiry on an F6 since the SC range was released 5 months earlier. I found a dealer who didn't realise this and gave me a top trade-in, too cunning

F6's are very good cars but they're yesterday's news and are unchanged from more than 3 years ago, just look at the sales stat's, the word is out. Besides they deserved this price cut, the very small development budget on the F6 was paid for a very long time ago and FPV have been "milking us" for some time on F6 prices.
