I dont know if anyone else has checked out the FCAI wbsite
http://www.fcai.com.au/sales/monthly-production-volumes but a little worrying to see that only 10469 vehicles were built in australia in December 2012 (about 25% below the previous worst december in 2010) . I know most of the car makers only work 1/2 to 2/3 of the month in dec., but you would hope with those production numbers, they wont be offering 2012 sale discounts for too long. |

I think that's the reason.
Too much supply not a good look.

it`s a sign of the times i think, it does`nt matter how good our cars are , Australia is the worlds dumping ground for imports, govco encourages it, does any one see it stopping anytime soon? i can`t, heading down the creek without a paddle.

The Free Trade Agreement with Thailand was the tipping point...Ford Range and others plus half Jap imports manufactured there then imported duty free....'say goodnight dick'.

Not that I know much about these agreements, but I would suggest that it was a bad idea, especially for our manufacturing...

Howard's act meant job losses would mainly affect Vic and SA so, no great problem really. He was rarely seen in Vic or SA as they were Labour states

A) Who cares about one single month. Let’s look at whole years
B) You'll find Toyota up (maybe) & both Ford & Holden down C) We have discussed this at great length in many topics, this is NOT new news D) Why are we discussing it again?? |

b) If you helped out with "A" I won't need a maybe. Toyota is the only one with any real exports so just looking at sales data only for Toyota is unhelpful. For Ford & Holden sales data paints the approx picture of production numbers if you ask me. c) Yeah, because they is no relationship between production & sales figures!! NOT.. d) Bored at work & thought I’d go fishing!! |

Not sure about GM, but I believe Ford a couple of years back moved the 4 week shutdown forward a little, to 2 weeks in Dec 2 weeks in Jan rather than the traditional work till xmas eve and return after Australia day. That gives a few less days production of 2012 plated cars that had realistically no hope of being sold in 2012, and would have to be discounted as "old stock" despite being 4 weeks old. That's not the only reason, but its a factor.
