If you need to buy used pads you probably can't afford an fg.

I've thrown pads with more meat than those in the bin before.
Who in their right mind would bid on them?

If people are happy with used tyres, why not be happy with used pads? Whilst I wouldn't buy them, I don't see why there wouldn't be a market for them.

if you shop around you can buy new ones for the same price superstop from supercheap $32.95 ( not my first choice but still suits budget buyers )

People love to buy second hand car parts. Just look how many people go to wreckers.

Just like anything, it’s about how it is sold.

He advertises them as Genuine, so people think that they are saving a heap of money, plus getting a Ford part.

My self, would never use second hand pads, but people are always looking to go cheap on cars, even if it is one of the main parts of their stopping system.

Strangely enough, there are people out there that have gone and bought a new car on HP......They also have a mortgage to pay and a few mouths to feed....Then the poor old bastard that is in this situation gets the letter in his pigeon hole saying "Sorry Mr Jones, but you're position is no longer available, as we are down sizing"....

Then all of a sudden he desperately need brakes or tyres to look for work, has the car and house payment due, so he's got to do somethign desperate, like buy 2nd hand brake pads or 2nd hand tyres

Sounds far fetched doesn't it????? Those that reckon it does, think before responding.....This situation happens more often that what you realise

A point being made is that NEW pads are the same price or cheaper ....... so no need for a righteous rant at everyone thanks.

All due respects, but the beginning of the thread, many were downgrading the seller and people that have to buy 2nd hand to keep their car on the road.....

A couple of good comments were

"I've thrown pads with more meat than those in the bin before.
Who in their right mind would bid on them? "

and "If you need to buy used pads you probably can't afford an fg."

Comments like this aren't really supportive, nor thought put into situations that do arrise as I have pointed out.....So may I request you have a look back at the posts previous to mine and re-assess....

Guys, i supose buying used brake pads would be like buying a used car. If they are roadworthy they would be ok, buying a s/hand car then replace everything in it so it is new again i dont think so. Anyway just my s/hand 20c worth. Cheers Neil.:

Depends how long they're out of work......Personally I've seen them just after they've been given the "dear Mr Jones" letter, in this sort of desperate situation....

IMA, I used to work at a place where I could throw a rock on brand new Holden cars, so I saw it quite a bit of this, when reduncies were about and they had that big 1 week on 1 week off scenario a few years back.

So are they stupid?????I don't think so....Just in a bad spot due to the economy at the time

Really?

Baldrick buys a XR6T sedan for $50k on the drip at $500/mth. Not a problem as he is taking home $1000 per week in his job shuffling widgets.

ACME widgets get flooded and as they do not have flood insurance (which is the situation with almost all commercial insurance) they not only can't produce and need a lot of money to fix their widget shufflers but the shuffled widget market has taken a major down turn due to customers wetting wet and cheap imports so Baldrick loses his job and as there are lots of others in the same situation has difficulty finding another.

So which of these is the "nuts" solution:

1) Dump the $50k car for maybe $25k leaving him with a $20k debt that he cannot get a loan for as he is unemployed as he does not have time to play silly buggers selling privately and no private buyer will buy a car that is under finance and THEN buy a crap car for $5k which he does not have as he is already in hock for $20k. And lets hope the crap car does not need maintenance.

OR

2) Tough it out, racking up a $500 per month debt on a dodgy credit card while scrounging about looking for work and picking up any part time crap job or jobs to make ends meet until he either starts shuffling widgets again or tries a new career and then pays off the dodgy credit card, continues to pay off his car and life goes on.

In both cases if he does not get a job he will lose everything but in one case when he gets a full time job he is at least $20k better off AND has a nice car.

But we are all using second hand pads in our cars everyday, Unless you replace them before heading out, Oh Hang on once fitted...makes them second hand. I run 4 different compounds in the race car and swap them out/around depending on racetrack and conditions. 200-250Km/h stops on second hand pads. No issues as long as there not crumbling or delaminating/spalling.

from what I can see these pads LOOK to be in reasonable condition......with in excess of half a pad remaining, possibly almost new........assuming these are the actual pads that would be supplied

apart from a possible short term of mismatching with existing score marks (if any) I fail to see why a few bucks couldn't be saved and good braking capability be maintained

for those that can afford brand new, brand name its all good, for those that can't I fail to see any reason to poo poo the idea

we are all on a budget, some budgets are bigger than others.........all good to me!

Get the best you can afford, might be better getting a used second hand pad which is better than some new cheap ebay China special which squeals louder than a stuck pig and pulls up like your Grandpa's Ford Galaxie with drums all round.

It is your own choice & reasons to purchase second hand.....no big deal.
I wonder how many people here have bought from the wreckers which is no different to ebay.

People who are on a tight budget would buy second hand, I've been in that situation many years ago.

Oh yeah - been theremyself. When I was 16 I was at the local garage every weekend to pick up used oil for my XT Falcon as it leaked like Niagara Falls. The old bloke shook his head and I left an oily path to work and back for quite a while till I could afford a modern car.

Sometimes - ya gotta get er done!
