Default New HSV Backlash on TODAY SHOW

Was watching the TODAY show on Channel 9 over breakfast this morning - segment with Neil Mitchell commentary.
Interesting to see this make the morning show agenda.....albeit in a negative way.

New Supercharged HSV GTS

Basically - backlash against the new performance HSV
  • Waaaaay Too fast
  • Pointless car for today's day and age
  • 3-4 years down the track - will be priced squarely at young bogan Hoon affordability
  • Do we really need / want these types of cars roaming our roads.
Sound familiar...echoes of the 70's super car scare campaign
How does that SKYHOOKS song go again...............
"I'm livin in the 70's"..........

Only the elite are allowed to have power. So Ferraris are ok.

Funny, Mercedes and BMW get no bad press for Turbo V8 or V10 powered cars but if its a Holden or Ford, than they are death machines.

Agreed, but the comments were most likely made because its an Australian made car & in only a few years will be affordable to young drivers.

Very true, but the Aussie performance sedans LOVE to brag about their power have stripes, scoops, massive spoilers, power figures plastered all over the car. Almost screams hoon (for want of a better word).

The euros by comparison are very conservative about it and Prius loving Joe Public probably has no idea what an M3, RS4 /RS6, C63/ E63 are capable of.

I've been waiting for the next super car scare, seems it's on its way. With the media fixation on Hoons it was only a matter of time.

In before the government lock then?

I would like to think we are better than that these days, I mean so many cars have big HP, what are they going to do..ban them aswell?

But then again their are some numbnuts making law these days...

My first thought this morning was this sort of stuff will nail Ford and Holden shut. The average buying public and taxpayer are not interested in these cars and their association with bogan Australia.
Not a bright move from Holden when they have their hand out to the govt for survival. It would be better to have these cars fly under the radar for enthusiasts rather than shout from the roof tops.

the only way id give this topic any more breath..is if there are facts to show all the hoons crashing and dieing in these powerfull cars. Don't quote me but im almost positive that the biggest offenders on the roads are older people...not perceived hoons and there powerfull cars. Seems like another idiot with some agenda probably linked in some way to a political theme from who knows....

Using Neil Mitchell's logic you'd immediately have to question the validity of every motorbike on today's roads outside of a Vespa. For far, far less than any HSV or FPV I can pop into a motorbike shop and come home with a 1,000cc missile.

Where are the tools in the media who criticised FPV in 2004 when the Typhoon was unveiled??? They are earily quiet.

Comment from that article
Quote:
Holy cow! And with Walkinshaw able to get 480kW out of a 6.0 litre SS engine, you have to think they still have plenty up their sleeve. It certainly makes you wonder why Ford can only manage 335kW out of their supercharged V8. Even in terms of kw/litre it is no match for HSV.
See, this is the kind of uneducated douchebaggery we Ford drivers constantly face.

First thing this morning I log onto Facebook and some Dude has put that article on my timeline telling me to put that in ya pipe and smoke it.

You got it, currently 325 HSV killowatts don't even seem to match the so called 310 FPV killowatts of the F6 let alone the 335 GT range when there put on a dyno, so I wonder what 430 HSV killowatts are really going to equal at the wheels?

A current E3 325Kw Clubsport R8 that had 3 dyno power runs after my stock F6 a couple of weeks ago was either a donkey or had other "issues" as my F6 had 9 more RwKws with the only mods to mine being the 5L Coyote intake and Euro4 exhaust restrictor ring removed (still on factory tune), where as the GTS had extractors, full exhaust and tune done to it.
Needless to say the guy was mighty ****ed off..... I just

Dude not sure why u need to put this in. They both are powerful cars and I have had the chance to own both. I loved the fg F6 power but the rest of the car was falling apart hence why sales are down for falcon because they really are in a rut. Now for the new HSV coming the old saying is NO SUBSTITUTE FOR CUBIC INCHES being 6.2L charged I'm sure it's going to be quick and when tuned properly it will be a missile. The only thing I think it will need is the MRC tweaked , other then that the car will sell quiet easily.

Cool story, dude^

How much does the HSV cost again?

No substitute for cubic inches?

What's your excuse for the smaller capacity Porsche, Ferrari, Aston, Merc, Audi etc.. engines then?

How much power are they getting from a stock 5.0l again compared to a stock 6.2 with the same blower setup?

Jesus christ...

So if this is true. Why dose the B or F series F6 eats a HSV Clubsport for breakfast?

Has Neil Mitchell ever heard of a wonderful new invention called a track day? Where a racing track is opened to the public to drive their cars in any manner they want in a safe environment?
With this sort of outlook he must be either not into cars, or has been paid quite a lot of money to force his nanny state ideals on us.

Either they're breaking the law, or have WRX badges on an RX, but P platers cannot drive WRX or Evo, or Turbo Skyline legally.
