Default Brand New Supercharged Jaguar XFR for $110K !!!

Okay settle down and get your blood pressure under control

This is purely a hypothetical but does show what is possible without protectionist import policies and LCT. Kiwi's can access parallel imported brand new Jaguar XFR's duty and LCT free for $125K Kiwi incl 15% GST = approx $110K Aussie.
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used...-627124950.htm

If you could buy a brand new Jaguar XFR for $110K with all the style and sophistication of the marque, would you bother with high power Ford / FPV vehicles ?

^^ See link added. Zero import duty, no sales tax, no LCT, just the exchange rate, shipping, transit insurance and GST and on-roads when it gets here.
Even cheaper if a Kiwi flys to the U.K. and does the work themselves.
Beauty of an open market mate....

FPV GT-P by comparison is $97,000 incl On-roads, only $28,000 Kiwi Less

Is it purely the various duties and taxes here in Australia that make it a ridiculous proposition to parallel import?

No, my understanding is you guys are prohibited by law from parallel importing a model that's available through official distribution channels.
Of course all the Euro importers take maximum advantage of this policy.

I seem to remember something like that that from my days in NZ back in the 70's, 80's

TE Cortina's (we called them Mk 4's in NZ) were locally assembled and resembled the British design (bumpers, interiors and engine sizes which were only 4 cyl 1.6L and 2.0L ). However if you wanted an Aussie 4.1 6 cyl model you could privately import one from Australia. Is that the same thing Rodge?

May I ask, does this only apply to brand new cars? Can you import a 2 year old car?

Also why a Jag??? Why not an AMG or an M car?

Personally if the euro imports would cost in Australia anything near what they cost in the US/UK … I don’t think anyone in their right mind would ever even consider any locally made products (at their current pricing) … Welcome to Labour Protectionism The so called lucky country …

There are restrictions if the car was available in Australia.

Parallel importing I don't think would ever be allowed here, the importers and dealers are a powerful group and would protest vehemently. It's the import brands that don't want it to happen here.

If you are importing second hand vehicles in Australia you still have to pay GST and LCT.

Yeah mate Kiwi's can import anything they like from the U.K. tariff free, any age you like.

Some examples currently on the market here on Trade Me with all the import work allready done converted to $A for relvance to this forum
New XJ Jaguar LWB diesel $87K
New Mercedes-benz E63AMG $130K
New Mercedes-benz CLS63AMG $139K
New Mercedes-Benz S350 diesel $87K

The above are asking prices and are probably negotiable down by circa 10% after a proper haggle.

These are all first registered in the U.K. to get around export rules but are for all intents and purposes brand new cars parallel imported to N.Z. and currently on the market here.

I'm tempted by a new Jaguar XFR but yeah a new Mercedes-benz CLS63 AMG is a cool bit of kit too.
Thre are some benifets to living in New Zealand

If I could bring in a fully loaded 5 series without all the taxes and duties I'd do it.

Not sure mate but some years back, (not sure exactly when), import duties on Motor vehicles into N.Z. were completly abolished so its a completly open market here now.

Importing cars with stuff all miles on them from the U.K. due to their RHD configuration and the lower value of the U.K. Pound in the last couple of years has become big business for the parallel importers in N.Z.

In most circumstances near cars exported from the U.K. can be exported zero rated for the 20% VAT in the U.K., effectivly meaning for example that a low mileage Jaguar XFR on one of the U.K. car websites that's advertised for 48,000 pounds can be exported for 40,000 pounds zero rated for Value Added Tax, (48,000 / 1.2). The equation if you do the work yourself becomes 40,000 pounds, less whatever you can negotiate it down by, say 37,000 pounds, plus independent inspection costs, or fly to the U.K. and inspect it yourself, transport charges to U.K. Port, export charges, shipping costs to N.Z., transit insurance, customs clearance and wharf charges in N.Z. plus 15% GST on the landed total cost, plus on-road costs. All up about $100K if you do all the work yourself or $110K incl a bloody good holiday in the U.K. while you inspect the vehicle or just haggle a deal with one of the parallel importers, (like the one listed in the first post of this thread) for about $110-115K.

At $110k its not really a competitor for someone aiming at an FPV. Not in Australia in my opinion, but I could see how so in NZ. Your FPVs are expensive compared to here. GTs can be had for $65k for a demo and $68 brand new, add a bit on for GTPs. There is a lot of bargaining room if your serious and a genuine buyer. I paid $72k for my R-Spec. At $100k+ to spend on a car here only a few select few would see the FPV as a candidate, even with the ballistic performance. I work with these types of people daily.
However I nearly moved to NZ before buy the GT and the XFR would have been first cab of the rank for a test drive. At that price, for me FPV would be quite far down the list considering you can also get into a 2013 GT500 Mustang. You guys are spoilt for choice in that price range.

Hey um, Rodge.....

Seeing as it's less than two hours away, and you like to do comparisons:

I'm sure we'd all very much appreciate it

They usually have ZL1's and GT500's, too. All LHD

I read some time back, that they're still covered under factory warranty. If not, the one's I've seen have been offered with it.

*just checked. International warranty applies.

How good's that? You can get 2012 C63's for 110-120k! Wonder how much it'd cost to change the speedo to kph? (I'm picky)

Not my cup of tea, but a very good deal nonetheless........looks a lot like a VE to me in this shot. Hasn't someone from Holden or HSV joined their design team.....i think I read that on here once before.......
