Is it just me or are people putting anything they can on to club rego oh and sorry just realised was talking about Victoria in general not sure bout other states.
Well this morning was behind a clapped out rusty ad hell hilux thought how the hell did that pass then saw a late 80s early 90s 7 series beamer all dirty and blowing smoke but what sealed it for me was seen a couple of range rover disco"s that looked like they were ready for the crusher all the panels dented rust holes the size of tennis ball broken rear glass on one of them and so on. What I wanna know is how are these vehicles getting any sort of rego let alone club rego. Don't you need an rwc and inspection at vicroads to a vehicle registered these cars look like the type vicroads want off the road not on them am I missing something here or is there a massive scam involving club rego here in Victoria |

I know a guy who's been driving his restored old truck on club rego for maybe twenty years. No problems. It's a proper classic truck and is immaculate.
I think the reason they don't "crack down on it" is that 99% of club rego vehicles are probably better maintained and looked after than most newer cars. Our WB ute, when finished, will be put on club rego. Still, I'm a firm believer that if you have several cars/motorbikes, you should pay one "registration" and have one set of plates that you swap from vehicle to vehicle, with a small fee for each extra car/bike. You can only drive one at a time anyway, and having one rego plate would negate the criticism that "you'll just put your mates cars on it and all drive around on the one rego". |

Disco with rust holes? I'd like to see that! IIRC they are all aluminium.
BTW, club reg on a bush basher makes perfect sense to me. It's not limited to pristine examples of what you may perceive as enthusiast cars.

Should see down my neck of the woods, it's beyond a joke what gets around here on club-reg. I've even seen a clapped out old early Isuzu truck on club reg, I understand that not everything on club reg has to be concours condition but since the rules have been changed it is clear people and some clubs are making a joke of the system. The majority of genuine club guys with vehicle would have well maintained and RWC vehicle but how many out there now that are abusing the system are doing it to get out of it with cheap rego and RWC.. RANT over!

To obtain a club permit, the owner must supply to Vicroads a current certificate of roadworthiness or a letter from a scrutineer authorised by the club, stating that the vehicle is safe for use on the road.
To me the second option is a bit dubious, in fact the club I belong to only signs the application form when a copy of the rwc is supplied, which they keep in their records. |

Across the road at work their is a EA , 3 VL's and an XE all on club rego . All but one are daily drivers , it's a great system but being abused heavily in Victoria atm .

Won't be a problem soon as all the car enthusiasts are apparently dying out so there will be no reason for clubs and club rego.......

At the recent Hardtop Anniversary in Echuca the police were very active between Heathcote and Elmore pulling over club plated cars on the way up. I am confident that people doing the wrong thing will be caught.

the car has to be over 25 years old to be on club rego and you can use them on Club Rego for a maximum of 90 days in a year. I think the EA fits in there, XE's are now 30 years old at least

If clubs or members are scamming then it is only matter of time they will get caught out by the authorities.
As for cars in RWC condition I'm sure the police know how to do Road worthy checks |

Your joking about police doing rwc checks they don't know squat i had a cop make me open the bonnet on a egas bf wagon point to the gas convertor and say that my turbo was mounted illegally then he pointed to the exhaust manifold and asked what the silver stuff was hiding mind you this was a hwy patrol sergeant it took me half an hour on my phone showing him turbo engine bays vs na engine bays so please tell me that cops know whats going with rec checks |

So how does it work? club rego is how much to register? you still keep old number plates while still having club rego?

My current car club insists that the car be 'registered' before you join the club, then after 12 months and having been on 4 'runs' with the car you can swap over to their club rego Once you get approved, you pay Vicroads $66 for 45 days of using the car, if you want another 45 days you just go back to Vicroads and pay another $66, not sure about number plates costs, it was a while ago

One additional thing with these club plates, you are allowed to drive within a 100 metre radius of the registered address without having to fill in the logbook. I got club rego on my 4x4, its great! $70 a year for 45 days, new plates, cannot keep old ones. Insurance is now $95 too. For our club, car has to be road worthy and club scrutineers letter.

Gotta ask, who are you insured with as I'm struggling to find a reasonable insurer for the xd. . Mines on club plates and it's definitely not an immaculate example. . Mind u I found it interesting that you don't need a working speedo in Victoria on a 25 plus yr old car to pass roadworthy.

Just put the wife's 38 on club plates in NSW all we needed was the club scrutanier to sign the historic vehicle declaration and identify the vehicle as the one I said it was, a road worthy inspection (my club has nominated that they want this anualy) and the appropriate RMS forms compleated, then down to RMS pay them about $150 (had yo pay extra this year as I out my personalised plates in storage and had to pay for the H plate all went a lot easier than I had anticipated, my biggest problem is the plates look baffle but I'm saving a grand a year so I can learn like them
