Good for them

Haven't seen any figures recently but last year or the year before, Hyundai were spending nearly 3times than Ford PER car on advertising, Holden was spending double fords. BMW was by far spending the most with nearly 2k a car or something. That's gotta eat into profits

5500 Hyundai I30s plus its sedan version, Elantra with 689. Its a massage result. Doesn't even include its sister the Kia Cerato.
I'm surprised with all small these 4 cylinders sales, where are they all? Where I live all new cars are basically dual cabs or Commodores. |

Might have a bit to do with the massive price cuts on the i30. 3out of 4 were cut price sales at around 7k cheaper then normal at just under 20k. How on earth are they selling any i20s...or are they just free.

Even at these prices, they must be making money. They spend a mint on advertising and sponsorship as well. Most of their models are sold in several dozen countries - must be cheap to produce when you are pumping them out in the millions.

Cars are getting bloody cheap though, Volkswagen announced their MY16 updates today. Big value increases across the range. Mate scored 4.19% finance from Commonwealth bank today. Probably cheaper to own a German car than be a smoker nowadays. |

I think the buying public don't care for specific technical differences between brands. Gadgets, low price and safety seem to be a successful combo looking at the success of the I30.

I get a funny feeling they’re giving the customers what they want.

I checked it out on Sunday and was gobsmack at all the whistles and bells. $42K with heated and ventilated seats and a panoramic glass sunroof just to name a couple of things. He’s taken the Commodore out of his double garage and parked it on the street so he can park the Hyundai next to his E Class Merc. Talk about the changing of the guard. |

Main reason for i30 jump was $19990 driveway price with automatic included. As far as I know Corolla does not have stop start technology .

hyundai has been pushing the envelope to win sales for a while now, you could see it a mile off the company was going to be at the top of the heap for sales in the not too distant future.
The other car companies are really going to have to step up their game if they want to keep a slice of the sales pie. |

This is funny read......600million spent to advertise cars on Aus this year. Holden has a controversial add with a dad lining up children's toys in the driveway and racing up n down...... Ford has an add in India where their wives are shown tied up in the boot, suggesting your leaving your troubles behind..... |

Kia just got 2nd to Porsche in JD Powers initial quality survey. Hyundai was 4th, Toyota 10th, and Volkswagen nearly all the way down the bottom with Fiat. As Jaguar was 3rd, Kia and Hyundai are the top two non-premium brands. The South Koreans are nailing it because they are actually trying while many of the established brands seem to have given up. They can only ride the reputation wave so long.

UK Reliability index is a better reflection of what makes we actually get here and is the warranty and repair industry's actual experience rather than just customer impression:

Obviously a poverty pack simple car is going to fare better than a complex luxury car, it appears cost comes across more as a deciding factor for the score in the UK assessments. Personally I like the customer long term view on the cars performance. Although 3 years is not very long, but it's better than 6 months which is ridiculous. |

When you look at it carefully some brands can actually do really badly in the "Industry Average"Chrysler/Dodge/Ram and some really stand out like the Mazda, Mitsubishi or Mercedes as they are true stand alone manufacturers. |

Captivas are not too bad, first series got a bad rap but series 2 doesn't drive too bad. Better than the CRV or old Outlander in my opinion. In the end money talks and for many people this is the only way to get a new 7 seater under 30 grand.
