I got a lot of free fill when i bought my place 5 years ago, so free in fact that cartage was free.
Seems to be contaminated with some out of this world weeds. They laughed at roundup. So i covered the whole thing is 300mm of crushed concrete and compacted it. Due to my neglect of it out of frustration i now have what can only be described as weed trees. Id need a slasher to mow this, so every weekend i got get a pair of diaposable overalls and don a face mask and the poor whipper snipper is on max revs for about 2 hours and 2 full tanks. 2 weeks ago i bought 200kg of pool salt and put it on some weeds in the front yard and seems this has put the weeds in their place ie dead. I want to cover my whole block with it and perhaps just blue metal on top but this will take a LOT of salt. Ideas would be good if anyones done this, Ive never felt so defeated at something so stupid. |

Im pretty sure its an epa violation to salt the ground. Granted my property isnt that big, but from a neighbouring property through to another there was this weed/tree like weed that popped up but had a common root between the weeds. What i did was also not really epa friendly, but i found where it entered at my fence line dug it out and cut the root, put a little petrol on it. Cut the weed, again a little more petrol and kept digging cutting and dousing. 100% not the recomended method, but it did work. Didnt kill any grass either.

Go to any farm supplies outlet and ask. They'll be able to recommend an appropriate course of action.

I personally wouldn't add salt. You could end up with a bigger headache than the weeds.
Do you have a photo of said weeds? Maybe add Dicamba or MCPA to the Roundup. |

You need either a pre-emergent to stop the seeds germinating or something like Numchuck quad to knock the existing weeds down and mop up the remaining seed

You need to work out what it is so you can kill them properly.
Salting the earth basically kills the land indefinatly. May as well soak the ground in diesel.

Can using too much fertilizer work? I once killed an entire garden bed using fish emulsion fertilizer - too concentrated and too often. After 2 years and plenty of watering later, it provided a bountiful abundance of healthy vegetation.

If you still want to put salt on it just go to your local fertilizer works they should be able to supply it
