Default First car...

hey, im sixteen and love mi fords
i wanna get a first car that would be fair cheap ($3000>) and is powerful enough to get me around in a bit of style, i would love a 302 or 351 but obviously wouldnt be able to affrd runnin the old boys, so a 250 would be suffice. maybe even a ute except most of the older utes are always looking shitty(xd to xf), i dont know why but they just look like theres just bits of plastic half bolted on to a twig for a frame, but anyways any suggestions???

Sounds like you want a mid to large size Ford. An XD-XF sedan would be dead easy to come by with a 250, most likely on gas too. A good 1st car ;)

i'd second that. XE or XF sedan (or even the equivalent fairlane/LTD's) with a 250. One on gas may be a good idea, my FD 250 gets 650km to 85L of premium. average but i knew roughly that was what i was up for before i bought it.

try find one below 200,000kays, you can get VERY decent XE's or XFs for under 3k, even my FD was only 2600 with 155,000 on the clock.

depends, the owner doesnt list the kilometers (usually a bad sign! - no offence to the seller of that car). fairlanes with stupidly high kms are very common.

also helps to research a car you're interested in to find out common faults so you know what to look for

Since this is a first car thread, can anyone think of a good ford 1990< for a max of $2,000? cause I sure as hell cant, bearing in mind a old falcon isnt on the cards.

that would be cool geting a xd fairlane ltd, ( i love the grills they look sweet)
and if you have a pair of el cheapo chromies like some old 12 slots they look mint as. yeah i reckon an xf would be the go they got fuel injection dont they? and there bodies are a bit smoother so yeah, but they dont have the 351's angin outa em, but thats what i mite look into coz im thinkin of stickin with a six for a while with all these new poxy laws coming out and the ridiculous fuel prices...

havent really got any decent pics except this one:

as for auto transmissions... 3speed autos are what you'll find on almost all XD-XF falcons, some were 4 speed manuals i think.

all fairlanes and ltd's are autos.

Id say go 4 banger to start off with. TX3 or TX5 or maybe escort. Save your pennys for a better car i say. As for larger car i dont think you need it as your a 16 yr old.

Look at the S PaK xd-xf Falcons. Basically they are a similar idea to the current SR Falcons. A few cosmetic upgrades, maybe some extra accessories, but based on a GL. As they're pitched as being a bit sportier (at least in appearance) there is a greater chance of getting hold of a 4 speed manual. I found 11 years ago when I was looking for my first car - an XE S Pak - that about 1/3 were manuals, the rest autos. Fairmonts and higher are pretty much all autos. Some XE Fairmont Ghias had 5 speed manuals and perhaps EFI standard, but they are rare as rocking horse droppings.
