Default Any pre-purchase Problems to look for on AU1 XR8??

Hey guys. I found a mint 99 AU XR8 Ute, 5spd. It has about 60,000km on the clock. Are there any problematic things i should look for?? Apart from the usual oil leaks, and coolant.

Also was there much difference between Series 1 and series 2 motors??

Thanks

Later models had more powerful engines.

There's some info on www.aufalcon in the articles section under "hand built" which may help.

This list may freak you out, but don't be too alarmed. I've had my AU for ages now and the only major things that I've had go wrong are all self inflicted (tyres, broken clutch at the drags lol).

Rear shock towers, Harmonic balancer looseness and stuffed brake rotors should be high on the list. Apart from that they are pretty robust and just the "usual" car checks should be followed.

Look for rust at the base of the windscreen, where the wipers pivot from. You'll need to remove the plastic trim to check it. Also check for rust at the bottom of the front 1/4 panel behind the front wheels. Dirt tends to build up there and will cause rust if it hasn't been kept clean.

Nothing wrong with series one V8 that a little cam wont fix ;)

Also, check your build date. Mine is late series 1 (11/99) and has a few little series two features which is cool.
