I'm putting a AU motor into an EA and want to keep the V-belt setup instead of converting to serpentine belt. I've swapped over the water pump and power steering pully ok but when I went to put on the harmonic balancer it hits the sump. Is there a way around this?
here's the size difference, EA on left, AU on right. Also there is no IGN/TDC markings on the AU timing case. Are the timing covers interchangable or should I just not worry about it? |

This is Sunny.
You'll have to change the timing case if you want power steering :P The pulleys for the power steering and air con mount on to/through the EA timing case. So you'll definitely need it. Sundeep |

are the timing cases interchangeable between EA and AU? AU run a different sump gasket therefore have a different timing cover design. the EA has a a groove in the bottom for the gasket where as AU is flush. the AU sump gasket is like the rockercover gasket style and press's into the sump.

cause i cbf getting new alternator, ac, power steer pully, and thermofans. I just wanna fit all the ea stuff if possible.

Sorry mate it's not possible, your gunna haveto run a seprentine belt setup, and because there are clearance issues with the belt on the AC compressor side, your gunna haveto install a supercharger to redirect the belt on the right angle to clear the chassis :P

YOU can easly keep the v belt set up, You dont need to change the timing cover at all. You need to grind the timing cover/ sump where the balancer hits, you need to grind it nearly to the bolts. You only need a few mmm of clearnance. The Block needs to be drilled and taped and the sump ground to allow the Alternator bracket to be bolted up. Simply grind the high ridges of the timing cover to allow the a/c pump tensioner bracket to be bolted up. And you need to grind the A/c Mounting bracket to allow it to be bolted up to the au block, and grind the block on the 2 mounting blocks where the bolts go through the a/c pump. It is possible just a bit of grinding

I`m sure you can buy the add on part to the balancer, like the ones they add on for the supercharger's, you might wanna check around b4 you start modifying stuff. If you cant find it you might find sumone that can custome make it for you but it might cost a bit.

Well guys after a bit of research and a lot of grinding here's the new AU/EA hybrid motor lol!
So yeah it can be done :thebirds: All the various bits and pieces bolted on with a few mods here and there. Injected_250 you were a big help even though you didn't know it......I found an old post on the old fordforums.com about the engine conversion you did for your mate where you put the V-belts on the AU motor. So yeah thanks for that : If anyone ever wants to do the same thing I took heaps of photos of all the modifications you need to do. Basicly, the water pump bolts straight on. The power steering pully bolts straight on. The front of the timing case has to be ground down to fit the AC tensioner. You have to grind out the back of the alternator bracket and also a mounting point on the sump to fit the alternator bracket. I also drilled a hole in the block and welded a stud in so I had another point to mount the alt bracket to. Also have to grind down the front of the sump where the two bolts go up so the balancer fits. In the end it all lines up sweet as. : I also welded in another bung in my extractors for a second oxy sensor. It's for the wideband air/fuel meter that I bought a while ago. I painted the extractors and manifold in heatproof aluminium paint. Gonna paint the rocker cover blue like the car when it goes in. I also put the AU injectors in...they are only 1 ohm differnce to the EA ones...I might correct it with a resistor inline if it stuffs up the ECU. cheers for the help everyone |

The au injectors will work.... They are LOUD though... Its amazing how much mess the alloy from the timing cover makes hey :>

give me the rocker cover dug ill polish it up for you. The au injectors dont run properly with the eb computer you might have problems withthe car over fueling, thats the problem i had.
