Well finally my car is back on the road after a bit of work.
Here's what's been carried out:
What can I say about the manual? It's crap. A waste of money...... Not. I thought it might've been talked up by a lot of people..... But holy, freaking, crap! My car has been transformed. It actually feels quick off the line, like fu c king awesome quick!! I haven't really driven manual before, but I'm slooooowly getting used to it - I've stalled a few times hehehe! It idles better than when I had the auto. The reverse lights work and everything else seems normal. The only thing is I've lost the trip computer functions (EEC V) and my parker fuse blows everytime I turn them on. Other than that, I'm absolutely over the moon. My best mate who has only driven manual drives it hard and I just sit in the front seat giggling like a school girl. He also mentioned that it is easier to drive than his 2002 manual Corolla (probably mostly due to the clutch). Next on the cards is a diff with 3.9s and chip. Then who knows? Thinking headwork and a lumpier cam (JMM DEV 5 or Alted's stage 2 cam).

Yeah, nice work Luke you've done well and the car drives pretty bloody nice, soo damn smooth the gearbox feels like new and that clutch is awesome. Once you get some more practice driving manual you will love it even more. It's good to beable to lunch cars off the line instead of playing catch up. :

Great to know that it's finally back on the road and you're happy Luke. Your car has come a long way. It's probably faster than mine now

Thanks guys. I'm really getting the hang of driving manual now. I didn't even know about the friction point, but my mate gave me a run down last night and it's helped me heaps. I'm still yet to tackle a decent hill (shi t ting bricks about that).
-jjM- the conversion cost me quite a lot in the end but I wanted to do it right. I'd hate to think how much I've spent on my car so far. But oh well, what else am I going to spend my hard-earned on?! I'd love to know what it does down the 1/4 mile. It winds out the revs sooo quick now - 1st and 2nd light up the wheels easy haha! Quote:
I'll go take some pics soon.

Looking good! I must say I've never seen a Blue Top in a car before. I like the Jaycar terminals too, what are they worth?

It's funny you say that, but I had a guy at a 4x4 store try and sell me the Blue Top, Optima themselves also suggested it, and Neal on fordmods suggested the same. They are basically identical in specs anyway, this one can sit for 12 months and not need a recharge The only difference I can find is the addition of two smaller terminals if you look closely enough - they will come in handy if I ever need to jump start someone.
Jaycar terminals cost me near $70+ for both.

You dont need that switch anymore. You need to get the relay box which is in front of the airbox in an ef. I'll send you a copy of the wiring diagram which will show you how to wire it to the eec. It's fairly simple but effective system. do you have ef or el fans?

NZ, I am about to add thermo fans to the EB. Would it be possible to have the wiring diagram as well? I would be ever so grateful
The fans I have are EL ones. Thanks in advance |

Yeah ok. The EL wiring is quite different tho I only have the ef diagram
edit: just so theres no confusion the diagram is only for when you have an eec controlling the fans. in lukes case he has an XH ute manual eec which has the fan control but has no BBM function as its for the ED motor the base model XH used. |

So Luke's ECU runs fans just like EFs? Forget my advice then, I only know how to wire up the EL fans!
Luke, try find a WRX knob. They look a bazillion times better while still looking stockish. Plus they screw straight on. |
