Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies regarding RDA disc's & pads. Recently I had installed an ss cold air system on my au1( fairly hefty price ) and am wondering if I have wasted money. The snorkel is certainly much larger than the factory one, but the bonnet is so close fitting that it is hard to imagine much more air getting into motor. I do have a K&N filter fitted too. I would be interested in any comments you may have on the subject. Thanks |

I have a SS Snorkal on my car. From the Tickford snorkal. Difference? I could feel, it definately has more reaction, and pick up.
As for power gain? Probably only a kw or 2. I pulled 113.4 rwkw with cat-back exhaust and the SS Snorkal and air filter, on 18" rims. Which is fairly decent. As my insurance company isn't too keen on performance mods, I just wanted to do any little bit, to gain something. There are much better things out there for your bang for your buck. But if you can pick one up cheap, go for it. PS: On a side note, I'm actually going to be selling my SS Snorkal & Modified Lower Airbox, as i'll get the G&D Intake to suit the XR Front. I'll be selling in about a month and a bit probably. Cheers

Hello my friend,
A friend of mine has recently brought a cold air induction kit for his V6 supercharged Calais from a V6 supercharged specialist in WA. Why am I telling you this you ask? Well for his $250 he got a peice of ducting which relocated his MAP sensor closer to his throttle body, as well as a new lower air box and the big mouth intake. What I am trying to say is that I do not believe the SS cold air inductions are value for money. A K&N filter in your standard air box will give you a similar result for much less money. Also it depends on what other mods you are doing? Sure get a cold sir induction kit if you are going to change other things (rockers, cam, exahust ect..) Saying that, I wouldn't mind one, does it look cool?!! |

Has anyone seen the Aunger CAI for the AU Falcon?
From the looks of the pic I have, it's opening is bigger than the Tickford one...

I've got the SS one on my au XR8 and it the model thats suppose to be for the ba and its suppose to not fit. Well it does and it does a heaps better job than the sus POS they brought out for it orginally. Bonnet closes no probs. Hoops has seen it and was impressed too.
cheers

on a stock or mildy modded car all these big mouth CAI stuff is just an appearance mod. No real performance gains here i am afraid.
yes i did one too with a tickford snorkle cause i like the "tough" look but anyone who tells you they can tell the difference in power well that's just wishful thinking. |

Did anyone fits their SS snorkel themselves. I got one today (Thanks to LightningXR6T) at a price that was too good to refuse. Anyway, I though it would be a simple swap over for the Tickford snorkel - I could not have been more wrong! After drilling a few holes (for the screws) and a bit of cutting here and there, finally got it to fit AND clear the AC compressor belt etc. It is a very tight fit - only about 15mm clearance I reckon.
Will have to see how it goes on our trip down south, but already it sounds different. A definite sucking noise coming from the induction side of things.

Did you cut the bottom of your Airbox? The exit of the snorkal is nearly 1 and a 1/2 size of the Tickford Snorkal.
I could tell the difference in noise, and slight responsive... More at higher revs.

Yeh, it's pretty tight in their Mark. I figured at high revs (at standstill, not moving), the engine might move enough to make contact, given that the airbox and the snorkel are pretty much fixed to the car. If it does hit, hopefully it will only damage the snorkel (Only??? at $200 odd, what am I saying??)

I dont seriously see how they can charge that much money for a piece of plastic. Honestly it wouldnt cost more then a few dollars to pump out a piece of plastic pipe. They sell you a flimsly plastic tube for $200+ what a rort. The tickford one is thicker plastic but smaller and only costs $30 and thats from ford the biggest rip people for spare parts. How can anyone in the world pay that for a piece of plastic. I got a whole 2.5 exhaust system made of metal for less then that and people are paying so much for a tube. Crazy stuff!
I bet who ever made the ss snorkels is retiring on a fkin big island.

I think they are way overpriced & believe for value the aunger one is just the same. It depends on what you are after though looks or performance(ss inductions looks great). Damm you JC I was a few hours too late or I would have had your ss induction unit on my car(bargain) but there is no way I would pay full price for one to justify it.

I like the Tickford wing look ... although it might not do that much for mine (it's no power house anyway ... so I really don't care). I thought $30-odd was a cheap upgrade ... I dunno if i could justify spending more than $100 on just a snorkel though ... I'd rather put that money to changing the pipe from the airbox to the throttle body where there is more to be gained IMHO.

I don't reckon there's much difference in power, just better driveability. On the trip to and from Melbourne, we averaged 9.5 l per 100km, I think as a result of the SS inductions and the vaporate. Even around Melbourne we got 12.5 l/100km, which is about 2 l/100km better than what we normally get in Canberra.
