EF/EL Interior Door Trims

hey guys...

Just wondering, do Gli's and alike have a plastic insert on the interior door trims? My ghia has the woodgrain version and I dont know if I like it or not. I was thinking of doing a cf (like current FPV's) or brushed aluminum finish instead, but I see no point in wasting the gia ones so ill just re-do some gli ones if they even had them.

Ill get a pic of the bit I am talking about.

So if anyone wants to swap (with a cash adjustment) I am interested.

No mate, they dont.
Its not real wood anyway, just plastic.
IIRC, the Sequential had them painted....

nope they had nothing. best bet is to get yours re-covered in the design you want. there only plastic anyways, unlike the ED which had real wood :P

My EF has real wood, I can vouch for every dent.... bloody seatbelt.

mate, they dent up and look like real wood, but they are plastic

if i CBF i'd take a pic of the DL LTD one thats right here for you to see........ plastic

EF1's had the real wood, usually the plastic ones break when you try to get them off, the ef1 versions would have tabs that bend around like ED do

you're not wrong about the tabs breaking off.... i will be epoxy-ing these onto my doortrims

im pretty sure its some sort of wood underneath then hard plastic on top. it is the same materieal as my stereo surround and ive looked at it wondering a few times now :P

hello polyal why dont you spray the the color you want and afterwards give them an over coat of clear, an a & b mix clear is very good as it dries very hard, but it costs a bit more than standard clear you can apply as many coats as you like and then finnish off with the finest wet and dry you can get and as before polish with brasso, and because it is an a & b mix it dries fast and what is left over you can save for another day, I used an a & b mix on a venner table in 1972 an the finnish is still glass like, it has not yellowed at all, hope this helps.

all the "wood" trims in all e-series (As far as i was told and learnt from my grandad who worked on the trim line for 30 years) is all veneer, it is wood, but a thin layer, some models over time had solid wood, most were wood veneer, heavily laquered. and set on a backing of plastic.

EF and EL ghias, fairlanes and LTD's do have 100% fake wood trims, i didnt know EF1 Ghias had real wood though...

Can almost guarantee you that no Ghias or Fairmonts, regardless of model or series, had real wood trims.The cost would be enormous, they would warp etc too.

mine are :S. they fade like real wood, they have proper grains in them like real wood and they snap like real wood :P it is only cheap light weight stuff but it is still wood!

like i said, it isnt solid wood, it is wood veneer, which is like 1 or 2mm thick or something like that, then mountedon a plastic or metal backing with a 5mm or more layer of laquer. i asked my grandad this afternoon, and he confirmed that all e series had veneer which is REAL wood. just a very very thin layer of it.

yeah well these days, and previously I would suspect, unless you are forking out 100k+ you are getting plastic.

But still, I will still do with some kind of other material, and after seeing that merc in the pub I think CF will be the go!

No wood in them at all. I have an EF Fairmont ghia, and I can guarentee they are 100% plastic. You can even see the pixels in them if you look hard enough!

I have played around with NF1 door trims, and EF1 Ghia trims, and have pulled the "woodgrain" off, and I can guarentee that EF are all 100% plastic.

I have some NCII Fairlane trims that would appear to be a wood veneer though, which is likely.

In any instance, EF's never had real wood, guarenteed.

Polyal - Back to what you asked, ONLY Fairmont Ghias and Fairlanes had any strip on that part of the door trim, all lower models have nothing, just an indent for where they should be.
