Default Copying other people's rides.

What's your take on it??

Some of you probably know the Chrysler 300c "THELAW" in NSW.. There is another down here in Vic, identical - same wheels, the same grille etc (oh, and it's not a freakin' Hemi!!!). I can understand going for a similar look, or having a car customised that turns out similar, but blatant copying???? I don't rate it. But each to their own.

I personally think its ok to get ideas from other rides, it can leed to something totally original, but to just straight out copy someones car is poor in my book.....I know if I had a custom car that was completly original, then a couple of months later I see one exactly the same id be seriously p1ssed!!

Thanks to the Oz Honda forums.

Still looks hot though

Don't get me wrong, most people get ideas and customise their ride from getting ideas from others, myself included. But a direct rip is something else...

i dont care
every 2nd commodore has a VY-VZ kit
every 5th ford has the same rims and bodykit
every import looks the same tacky way as the next

each to their own and it goes for everyone
unless someone copies your ride from head to toe in every department then its not technically identical or a copycat in a way.

Nothing wrong with copying another car if it looks hot.

Now trying to pass off as being that car, or claiming that the person you copied actually copied you... that's not good.

i think everyone gets some ideas for their rides from others...... but as Steffo said if your trying to pass off as being someones else's car then thats poor form.

my mate has had this happen to him with his VZ, except the other guy changed 1 letter in his number plate.....

well the grille is the bentley grille that you can get standard form chrysler even tho is an aftermarket option

and the rims well..
maybe they both loved that style rim!!

and at least the number plate is different

altho how many white XR8s are there around ;)
or VLs with the same wheels..

theres only so many options in this world..
especially for a NEW model of car in australia..

i dont mind a bit of 'improving' the look by adding the kit of a better model but i agree copying exactly what someone else has thats wrong.

as for the 300c who would have guessed that a small town (INNISFAIL <- cyclone larry town) would be among the first to have a 300c in it and they put 20 inch rims on it ill show yous a pic when i go back home

There is a fine line between copying and using ideas.

I hate copiers, these people can not think for themselves and leech of others.
Using ideas is a great was to customise your car the way you like it.

sorry but i don't think choosing the same grille and rim design constitutes 'copying'.

neither of those two have really done anything special to the 300C.

its no different to two people both putting the same mesh grille and same 19" rims onto their XR6s that just happen to be the same colour.

if THELAW had a full custom paint job and modified bodywork, and the other person did the exact same mods a few weeks later, then THAT would be copying.

besides, the black centre DUB rims look crap anyway.

Move along people, nothing to see here.

yeah NO WAY thats copying.

How many e series do you see with EL GT or AU Tickford copies? Bloody everywhere.

Both those 300C's are awesome, and I would "copy" the law anyday. I love the 300C so much I am going to pimp out my ghia a bit aswell. So yeah, I see nothing wrong with it, its not like there is an endless supply of wheel designs or grills...

its not like theyve highly modified the car. just wheels and a grill.

hardly what your call creative.
yes it look nice, but its not like he has created something SO unique.

Personally, I look to other people's cars for inspiration, but I've never really seen a modded car that would be exactly as I'd have it anyway. Copying for me is out of the question but then not many can afford truly unique one off mods for their car.

P.S. Is it just me or does that grill on those 300Cs look cheap as all hell?

I wouldn't come at doing an exact copy, but I couldn't care less if others do it as long as they don't go around bragging that it's all their own ideas.

Actually, copying is the greatest form of flattery..

There was a 300C with that grille at the Motorshow in Feb, I am sure the manufacturer of that particular grill should realize they have sold more than one unit... and those wheels, whoever made them, do they know that they have sold more than 4 rims?

Off the shelf bolt ons aren't really customization. How many people run the same rocker covers, shaker scoop, wheels, suspension and don't get labelled. Both are nice cars, if you like it do it...

Mostly valid points. However, Commos and Falcons are locally mass-produced vehicles; so ending up with a few with the same wheels, grille, colour, model etc is bound to happen after several years (especially with the limited wheel choices EA-EL has).

Let's be honest, there aren't that many 300Cs to grace our roads yet, so I fail to see how that could be such a coincidence. Someone's obviously seen the original, liked it so much and decided to copy it. I suppose if a third black 300C dumped on exactly the same wheels and grille pops up, it's just coincidence too (unless Chrysler is selling them off the shelf with these options?).

I like some ideas in assignments or books, but it's already someone's idea and to copy 90% of it would be wrong, wouldn't it? I wonder how many of you like what someone wears, and gets the same colour, brand and style..... You'd look pretty silly standing there with the same shoes, pants and shirt IMO

Whatever floats your boat in the end. But as has been said, "nothing to see here."

Jealous much?

The fact is that black is the best looking colour on them, closely followed by silver. That navy blue and white look terrible.

So, just because someone puts some big rims on and gets the optional grill doesn't mean that its a copy. There will be HEAPS more to come Im sure.

One of the main reasons why I brought VY SSs for my VL, was because I had seen alot of VLs with them and I feel in love with them.

I agree nothing wrong with getting ideas, but too make your car a exact replica of someone else's is stupid. IMO

Besides, THELAW just looks like a lowered 300C with black rims. Honestly don't see what the fuss is about. From those images I can't really see to much extra that has been done to make it 'induvidual' (but I'm no 300C expert)... As blackers10 said, that grill is pretty common and you can get it from the dealers, I saw a 300C up here in QLD with it the other day...

Getting idea's from another car is ok, no problem. But staright out copying is just not on, specially in the show scene. Just shows that you have no orginality and no imagination.
