So, the new Commodore is released on 01/08/06. Here's a profile shot of the SSV.
Damo & I are thinking there's a bit of BA/BF influence there, the view from the front looks like a modern Ford Mustang. Each to their own... |

It's as though 50 Holden guys & 5 Ford guys got together to build a car. The car was designed from scratch though, not using a template of the current Commodore, so they've gone to what they thought looks best. It just looks very Fordish though... |

"It's a very nice looking car imo".....perhaps a bit of BMW 3 series influence as well with the front wheels set very far forward on the car?

take a look at the s2000 long engine bay with the engine mounted right back (to get a perfect weight distribution) and the front wheels are very close to the front and rears very close to the rear. so you have 50/50 weight distribution and the longest wheel base possible on a very small car. awesome engineering. i dont know if the holden nobs meant it like that though.

Yeah the car looks nice. It'll be a good competition between the VE Commodores and BF Falcon MkII. I wonder what Ford is gonna do with the MkII.

I saw one yesterday (think it was an SS?) as it drove past me at the traffic lights.
It was only a quick glimpse, but first impressions weren't good. At first I thought it was some Yank monstrosity- the proportions looked all wrong and the wing looked out of place? Hopefully it was just because I didn't get a good look?

I saw a couple of these being road-tested in Yarraville one night, over a month ago.

Personally I find there are way too many different sections on here, BUT most of them are geared towards the Aussie models. In effect, if you own/ are interested in a Euro Ford then there is little point in visiting them IMHO.

There's an extensive feature on the new VE Commodores in the August '06 issue of Wheels Magazine if anyone's interested.
