yes.. with the edit.

of course, unless it is an XR, going over 180kph will probably shake the car so violently the tailshaft will tear the transmission to death (if you're lucky) before whipping itself to death and falling out of the car... and probably impaling back into the boot or fuel tank(if you are unlucky). The Falcon super-dooper long tailshafts don't like going over 180kph.

Unless you live in the NT, there is nowhere you can do more than 110, right? On public roads that is

Not technically correct although most likely.

Theres a case of if you change your diff gears to 3.9's (for example), replace the speedo cog in the gear box and go drag racing. You would find that the limiter will kick in at about 150kph then.. which may be before the end of the 1/4.

Unusual but has happened to a few people I know.

I heard of someone removing the limiter, and after that, the engine had terminal failure. Doesn't sound like the smart thing to do, unless your after somthing to do on a weekend.

in theory, based on his car, the rev cutout in top gear would hit at about 255kph.. it wouldnt have enough power to get much past 220 though.

Hehhe nar the rev cutout is at around 9000 rpm now...gotta love that edit!!

Casper the wagon has definately seen 235 kmph on a dyno last year so who knows when it will stop...either the tailshaft will fly off or those bodgey dulop sp3000a 's might blow to bits..lol :

Trust me ... at 320km/h ... the world goes past you very bloody quickly ... and the dotted line in the middle of the road .... well ... they kinda become one line.

I found this out one night as a passenger ... and no it wasn't in a Ford either.

So if the speed limiter acts like traction control .... it wouldn't be installed in the EGAS models due to backfire then .... so in other words ... all EGAS model have no speed limiter .... LOL

Trust me ... a speed limiter is needed .... just check out Datamine's thread in FordMods ... he removed the speed limiter ... and at 192km/h (I think it was) his tailshaft let go on the dyno ... lucky for him it only put a dent in the floorpan

If people are wondering which car this was ... it was the Gold EL at the Autotech dyno day the other week.

actually he was being serious.. the edit can tell the system where the limiter is, same as mine. As it cant be totally "removed" it gets placed at an insane number.. like 320kph.

why do need to go over 180k's?

how often to you plan to go over that speed??

unless you have a decent suspension setup, (springs, and GOOD shocks), lower profile tyres, and better brakes then its probably not a great idea.

answer to earlier question, i dont belive any e/a series had a 2 piece, ba's were the first...

wagons, utes and fairlanes have a longer tailshaft too...

I got you guys going a bit there..didnt I . The price of fuel, traffic, conditions of roads, other crap drivers and the risks involved with speeding my daily high performance speed is 50 kays.OO what a rush... at 300 + kays I would want to weld wings and fly you blokes around Australia... but then the dunlops may let me down..haha

I agree the speed limiter is your friend. The WHOLE car is not up to it in so many ways.

eventually the tailshaft will let go and it can kill you and others. Even on the dyno it wouldn't be funny.

Some time back we used a Chiptorque J3 chip ($590) to remove rev and speed limiters on Hamo's AU6.
APS can clip the limiter with a special Unichip setup it doesnt work all the time and as far us I know only APS themselves in Croydon can do this, $1250 app.
Edit the go ($990 plus custom tune) unless you an pick up a cheap J3 chip for around $250 send it back to Chiptorque so they can match it to your ECU cost is $100 app.

one of my 'friends' in his AU ghia told me that he hit 190 on the 'dyno' and the engine cut out. And the accellerator became void. No problems there. Apprently the car stuck to the road and all his got is low pro tyres and stock suspension. Wasnt shaky at all. All that was shaky was the driver... Supposedly...

All of them do except XR (and probably T-Series)

My EL had it too, and i would think the EF would have. Not sure before that.

All Autos and long wheel base Falcons & variants have a speed limiter (I know my AU XR had one before the edit).

My ED XR8 Manual also had one - as I found out much to my disappointment on the main straight at Phillip Island!
