Not going into if i agree with or do not agree with some / all road laws except they are the rules at present and what we must abide by.
But watching Aus Idol tonight, during the break many would have seen the ad where the van rocks up the guy gets out sits on the lounge, does his spill, then jumps back in the van and rolls away. Not bad what's wrong with that, well until you study the add, watch / listen to the Van when in pulls up it comes to a sliding screetching halt, whats wrong with that ? well we all now have hoon laws, that if you or i were to do this we would get nabbed, yet a national player throws it down the face of a large audiance ( young ) and in a way promotes it. Even car companies are now banned from running ads which promote such things. Now at the end of the ad, the guy see's a copper coming, so in the van for a quick escape, once again we now have rules that land you in hot water if you run from police, but yet again its glorified in the ad for the kids. One must ask and say it is no wonder the kids today get confused, they have on one hand been told no hooning / get aways, to drive safe by thier older piers ( those in power ), then they allow large companies to glorify these behaviours in a way and time slot that appeals to the exact same age group, no wonder kids are confused. my 2 cents Last edited by DOC; 21-08-2006 at 10:06 PM. |

Yes, thats why I crashed my car, TV made me do it... It was because I was going to fast for the round about and wasnt being cautious enough on a wet road.

Car companies are no longer allowed to show ads depicting unsafe driving ( the ad where all cars go of the road at the corner is but one does not, is one ad, the holden ad with the ute doing donuts is another ), then the same powers to be allow an ad that shows hoon behavior, running from police and will run till late november in all of its glory targeted mainly at younger people, and if i were to tomorrow to come to a sliding halt as in the add or do a get away as in the ad i would be done for hoon driving without a doubt. and leaves open the question as what message the powers to be are really sending ? |

Maybe its the hoon laws that are the problem, not the things on TV...

Back on the matter at hand, I find it funny that shows like Idol, BB, all those type of shows can show whatever ads they like, yet car makers like Ford and Holden get crucified if even the tiniest puff of smoke is seen from a tyre, or if they show the speedo needle creep over the limit by 1mm. Contradiction at its worst.

The whole push to ban car ads encouraging hoons is useless anyway. Every 'p' plater spends their fist week on their p's driving 5 k's under the limit and 50m behind the car in front until they see that no one else does so and decide 'screw it, whats the point?' Thank God that Top Gear is on sbs and so no nanny politicians have stumbled across it yet.
