I was driving from Melbourne to Benalla and in the middle of nowhere (well...about 45 mins out of benallla...which is nowhere to me!) I has a rocker arm break, meaning number 7 cylinders inlet valve stopped working in my 1965 Pontiac...

Was driving from Kevington near Eildon and my front left wheel bearing fukked up so i was clonking very loudly and going slowly for the remaning 50kms home.
Oh and once i was driving an 83 honda civic that belonged to a female friend of mine and took it to 110km/h on the freeway and guess what shot out of the side of the block... Ended up dumping it at a wrecker (after being towed) who wasnt there and threw the keys into the mail slot along with a note 'please wreck me' and a phone number. |

I had my instrument panel sitting in the dash and not screwed in (Stupid Idea). It was fine like that on the way to work but when I took off from a roundabout it fell towards me and into the steering wheel spoke so I couldnt turn right. Was quite scary, I ended up going straight ahead through the roundabout although I was in the wrong lane and pulled over to screw it back in.
![]() More recently I was on a 200km trip with the EB fully loaded, my mum, brother and his gf and all our gear as we were to fly overseas the next morning. Was about 10kms into the trip when my clutch pedal broke off and was lying on the floor. Had to arrange for Dad to bring his car so we could take that instead and his mate to help tow the EB home again.

driving my old HR Holden with its glorius 4 wheel drum brakes through Adelaide on the way to work, when the front right brake hose splits as i come up to traffic stopped at the lights, managed to get the 3 speed crunch box back to first from 60 kmh and used the umbrella handbrake to pull up about a foot off the bumper of the car infront! to bad the camry following me kept driving straight into the back of me! (no damage to my car thank the towbar gods! -camry had to be towed away!)

My old VR commodore. After being on the road for a while, pulling up to a set of lights just after it had rained, had a massive (unexplainable) lockup on the front left, then saw a mountain of (again unexplainable) steam rising from the front left corner of the car.
Drove a little down the road and the temp guage shot up like a old man on viagra, pulled over to have a look. The unexplainable series of events ended up being the bottom radiator hose coming lose (bloody holden dealers, they are shite) and spraying coolant all infront of my left front tyre. And while I waited for more coolant, I got to watch about 10 different people **** themselves when they came to stop at the lights and locked up on my coolant. |

My bad luck seems to have happened on shorter drives, like when I had a wheel alignment done, was driving home, and had the front right wheel part company with the car. I felt the front right of the car drop down then watched as a turboblade crossed the road. That wasn't too enjoyable.

Was overtaking a truck in the EA across the Willochra Plain one time, all's clear ahead...
Mirror, signal, flash, change 5th to 4th gear, foot to floor, sped up from about 80 to 110 no problems, got around the truck & released the pedal, check speedo, 120, 130, 140, 150, 160...etc Accellerator pedal stuck!

I know cause I had the same thing happen to me in my XY. The carby brass balance tube fell out and jammed my throttle. I had to go home and change my pants.... As for the brass tube, when i tromped on the throttle (once I shut it down and pulled over) it fell out I didnt know what it was at the time so I started it. After a little while of drivin it dropped a cyl, I started to limp home and all the sudden it came good. Obviously chewed on it for a while and then spat it out. That motor ran in my car for another couple of years and then in a mates for a few more I LOVE AUSSIE SIXES............ |

Threw a belt (alternator/fan) 50km's from anywhere at 11pm (after a 4 hour drive from melbourne towards the SA border)... I had no tools, but did have a spare belt, 6 hours later or something rediculous I was on my way again... My knuckles and fingers hurt like buggery for a few days though.

Well, I couldn't find my old post, but the basic gist of the story was:
I picked up a hitch-hiker near Berwick. At 2am. Approximately 30 minutes after picking him up (yes, "him" :(), I realised he was succumbing to the influence of, err, something. At around 3.30am in Morwell, I was assisted by the local sarge in having him ejected from the car. It's funny how yelling at him and shaking him to wake up didn't work, but as soon as he heard the word "sergeant" and caught a glimpse of the copper's uniform he was fully alert... Hitch-hikers are no longer on my "I Brake For" list. |

Got another two...
Back on my p's I was waiting in the macca's drive through in Fulham Gardens in my KB Laser when the heater hose coming off the water pump decided to come off & spray coolant under pressure all over the hot idling exhaust manifold... Steam everywhere & a nice big puddle on the ground... Maccas chick thought it was hilarious... Second one was when I was driving up Montague Road in Ingle Farm, VH Commodore SL (gag)... Motor starts going tick tick tick, then BANG BANG BANG, anyway she came to rest at the top of the hill. Another example of the shoddy timing gear.
