Standard flat filters seem to flow relly well in AU's as it is, I would leave it as that.

How is the air going to get into the "biggest pod filter that will fit" if there is no space left around it in the airbox... ;)

There is pleanty of room, its 11 inch long not wide so it has room. It also helps if you have a hole at the front of the airbox to get some more air from behind the headlight

Then. A den is where lions live.
Pod in a box is a waste. It's actually no different (on my car, anyway), to having a flat panel K&N. Ther BA Pod setup, on the other hand, is well worth it, and the ultimate is the G&D airbox or similar. For an AU, you need the biggest filter you can fit - I believe G&D use a 4" opening, and the filter is around 10" long.

I had it on the XR8, and when I went LPG, I was advised to go back to standard airbox due to the need to fit a balance pipe for the gas. I have since replaced that with the BA setup, as it allows proper fitment of the balance pipe, while retaining a Pod filter.
I did have the CDA on the Forte for a while as well, but replaced that with the standard airbox (and now BA pod) when I was chasing up an intermittent miss (set everything I could back to stock). Turns out the miss was coilpack, not air intake related, so the CDA has just been sitting around in the box. I keep meaning to throw it on ebay.

As JC said, a pod in the standard box is a waste. Been there, done that, lost power. If you want to keep the std airbox then a flat panel filter is the way to go. If you feel you MUST get a pod and stick it in the box, get a foam filter (finerfilter make great ones). That will give you the best compromise (and probably a hp or 2 more).
