Default Cops did their job for once.

So I went camping last long weekend. On the way back I was the second car behind a VL Commy with 4 surfboards on the roof and passengers to match, doing about 60-70kmh in a 100kmh. It was the single lane each way slightly windy level type of road. A line of cars quickly formed behind us. Every now and then I placed a couple of wheels on the centre line to see what was up ahead for overtaking. Im glad I didnt overtake because the next thing I knew the was a BF highway patrol cop behind me with all lights flashing and sirens blaring. I was a bit unsure if he wanted me or was trying to get past. As I pulled off the road I quickly realized he wanted to get past. He pulled directly behind the above mentioned VL and pulled him over. Obviously cause of the slow speed.

Just thought I give it a mention because it was nice to see the police looking after road safety for once without sticking to solely sitting behind trees and pinging people for doing 7kmh over the limit. Even if it was just because of a public holiday.

I dont know what its like in other states but here in NSW police have all but disappeared from our roads. With those pesky speed cameras allegedly taking over the important role of road safety (read, revenue raising). This is a perfect example of why we need police back on our roads. Im sick of the "If I stick to the speed limit then no harm can come to me" mentality that our government has brainwashed us with. If the government was serious about reducing road tolls they'd deploy their arsenal of holiday highway patrols all the time.

Ok I've had my rant now. I feel much better. :

Ive heard in Victoria its really bad for that. Maybe you guys should change you slogan on your number plates. To Victoria "drive on our roads & YOU WILL PAY."

I don't know about that. What I have noticed over the past year or so is an increase in the number of UNMARKED police cars having pulled up motorists.

Latest example I saw was yesterday, a silver XR6T with a portable blue light on the roof pulled up a guy on Lyons road five dock. The trouble is, you don't notice these guys unless they are actually in pursuit or have pulled somebody up. Definitely more of it happening now than a year or so ago.

Perhaps one of the men in blue who are members of these forums could confirm whether this is the case, or just my perception?
