dunno if this is true or not but apparently the ed v8's are only 4.9 but badged as a 5.0L. there is no differance in stroke, pitsons etc... for previous models jut badged as a 5.0L...
dont know if anyone can back me up back... I may sound like im talking out my **** but I think its true...

1 cubic inch equals 0.01638706 of a litre. So just times your cubic inches by that figure to get your litreage.

The 4.0L Inline 6 is only 3984cc but how anal do you have to be to put a "3.984i" badge on the car lol.

Seriously, it's all cool, still a good engine.

Talking 4.9 Vs 5.0lt

Early 302 and 351 had same bore it was stroke and heads and manifold that was different same as god forgive gmh's 253 & 308 one was work bred the other was race bred nowadays it is basically worked on cc and you have a look at an earlier post it states 4.9888?? which in the eyes of ford is .0051?? short of 5.00000cc'sso in essence it is a s 5.0 the 351 is 5.8 so don't get the two mixed up and the moral to all this is " WGAF " probably the difference of two human hairs stacked on top of each other..................... :SaiyanSmi : :

It went from 308 to 304 part way during the VK, to fit in with 5L Group A Touring cars.

I thought the 302 was 4946cc lol.

This is the greatest travesty in history! My god, if, if only I knew, I would never have bought a "5.0" (hah!) EB. In fact, I would not only have boycotted "5.0" falcons, I would have excluded myself from ANY form of transport which involves the employment of internal combustion!!!one

Who the hell do Ford think they are?!? Such an inappropriate use of the number five! And zero! The cast of Sesame Street would be appalled at the thought of EVER using those two numbers in their programs.

As for that decimal point inbetween the five and the zero, that's the lowest act of all, I'm going back to fractions. I for one am instantly trading in my EB for a JB Camira backed with an auto/1.6L non-EFI driveline. Base model of course.

I wish to thank all in this thread who have alerted me to this explosive information. This is bigger than S11, the Big Bang and J-Lo's *** combined!

yes, this has been discussed many times before.

the rule of thumb is, if it's 50cc or higher, it's rounded up to the next litre, eg 5450, would be 5.5, where 5449 would be 5.4. Ford decided to round up when it should have been down in this case, and they're badged as 5.0

It makes little difference, but i've always referred to mine as 4.9 litre, or, as i prefer, 302.

From the Genuine service manual - 302 Windsor = 4942cc or 4.942L

Why was it badged 5.0? Marketing.

Default 5.0/4.9 answer

The answer I was given in 1970's to the question of the 5.0 litre Vs 4.9 debate it goes back to the late '60's when Holden releasd the Monaro,(not sure which model) some were badged 308, some 307 and some 5 litre. When Ford released the 302 Cleveland they were going to badge it 5 litre also, but rumour has it Holden took legal action so Ford couldn't use it,so they used 4.9 instead. Capacity measurement badging isn't always truthful, usally what sounds best is used.

The 307 and 308 are different engines.

The thread has been cleaned up and warnings will be given for any further unnecessary posts. The thread title is also toned down.

Back on topic, marketing is BS by its very nature, with no relevance to the product it promotes. With the EB, the 3.9 was closer to 4.0 than the 4.9 was to 5.0. The American Mustang, which was the donor car for the motor, was badged 5.0 also - it even features in a Vanilla Ice song. Remove the badge if it is a concern. ;)

fords 5.0 is a 302 windsor, which is 4.9 litres, i reckon they rounded it up because the holden V8 was a 304ci and they claimed it too was a 5.0, just marketing but thats my opinion
