Default D is for DON'T GET CAUGHT

SA - SUNDAY MAIL

Yet another we are all hoon articles pumped out proprtion by the media and in relation to SA hoons.

In general they rave about people driving dangerous on our roads and yes there are plenty of stupid idiots who fall into this catagory and deserve thier backside kicked.

Further to this it is they say that mediums like U Tube have caused this behaviour and actions on the road to become popular and yes to a degree this would be true amongst those few idiots as above.

But for the rest of us and id say 95% who are also branded with the Hoon Tag when will the government give us a legal place to run and test our cars and when will the government understand that thier stupid rules add to the current bout of antics on our roads.

For example around 12 months ago Mr Fooley, announced a new rule that if you do something stupid and run from the boys in blue we will take away the car, I said at the time great now there is no incentive for people to stop and they will run causing more fatalities etc, and yes high speed chases according to our clever government are up by around 75% and you didnt need to be a brain surgeon to it happening.

With this as one example of the attempts to squash so called hoon behaviour and to have the gvernment continually push up penalities claiming that this will fix everything can they not see that the general jo blow public are now at point where they do not give a rats and where it is now and people are now openly challenging the law and in general flaunt all attempts to correct the problem are in some ways self imposed.

So why cant the goverment establish with thier $ a safe enverioment / s for drivers to clear thier system of that built up urge to drive on the wild side, then instead of blaming electronic medium for its current delima use this medium as a weapon to promote a positive and compete with a war on advertising correct ways for these people to enjoy themselves, Lets say a group on you tube have a ball at the track in a legal way etc etc, but then i again i suppose they only use advertising medium to fill us with all sorts of wonderful and exiting reasons we shold vote for them.

"At the track your Cool, On the the street your a Fool"

The thing that angers me is that there was NO signage. and being unfamiliar with the territory i went with the flow, guessing that everyone else knew the limit.

Yes i was speeding, but there was no way to know it!

so another $179 of my cash to the guvment for something that could be avoided if the city could sign their roads correctly, three lanes of traffic and they want me to concentrate where im going in a strange city as well as keep my eyes on the side of the road looking for speed signs, street signs, pot holes, gutters, trucks etc.....

Worst city ever....

I agree with you mate i live in adelaide and its a **** hole but the reason theres no speed signs is because our government always pedals the crap its 50kmhs UNLESS otherwise signed eg. if theres no speed signs you always drive at 50kmh.

The rule is 50km/h unless otherwise signposted in a built up area.

They need two things

1.) Local drag strips which are activly promoted. Like WSID, wednesday night street meets they play music over the PA and you can txt msg questions/song requests.

I had my 10 seconds of fame when i txt msg'ed whats the worlds fastest 1/4 mile pass

Answer "Tony Schumaker 4.44sec" Lol i was like OMG OMG they answered my question

2.) graphic TV ads of teenages in body bags and their family and freinds crying with the caption "your heaps cool now eh fag!"

Yeah, the need to show wreks of cars and stuff....

Example:
(Flash backs of 4 mates hooning around, laughing, driver does a handbrakie...
...show pictures of a car wrapped around a tree or pole of some sort, blood body on ground)

driver:20
Car: WRX
200kmh, 4 mates, one mistake...

now he has 3 less mates...

...his new wheels are on a chair.

And to top it off, he can't be a lover no more.

Dont be a ********.

(closing pictures of his girlfriend walking out...)

(blank out word is a more direct form of this: Richard Cranium)

Do these adds really impact people though?

Personally i don't think so.

They should save there money on useless advertising and spend it on driver training Which will save lives, no doubt.

And more places too take cars off the street for you to "Let your hair down".

Some friends of mine are in the SES and CFA and often attend road accidents. They reckon that after a bad accident or a fatality, they will modify their driving behaviour for about a week before returning to their original behaviour. If the real thing doesn't slow people down, how can a tv add?

the punshments just went up a notch over here in perth too :( on a better note every multinova site set up n perth is going to contain 2 cameras to get the front AND back of cars (front page today was a classic moto rider kneeling on his fuel tank pulling the finger with both hands!)

all this means HALF the amount of multinova sites!!!

This article in the sunday mail I read it, all associated pictures with the story(8 of them) were of Holden commodores. Does this mean if you own a dunnydore you are basically fodder for the hoon laws? :togo:

another clip of sammy running 3.81 secs 1/4 mile.

They need to teach kids about cars in school and some parents arent helping.
A guy in my year at school was convinced his dads Holden Vectra was RWD and you couldnt convince him otherwise.

Long story short he tries to drift the Vectra after watching Tokyo drift and it didnt end too well.

Maybe he understands the difference now..............

nikk, fine idea, but ya gotta remember, most of the people behind the problem have a mindset of "i'm mark skaife, and i'm immortal"

damn... wouldn't get rid of the problem entirely but definitely better than whats on our screens now.

unfortunately I think theres a few people out there that will only slow down after they've actually been affected by a situation like that depicted in that ad. They'd be the ones that think they're invincible.
Pity they don't realise that their actions affect others also...

you think thats horrible? what about the ones who have to live with the real life consequences of other peoples stupidity? the physical disabilities, missing friends, the nightmares, not being able to travel a stretch of road again without knowing what happened, the flashbacks, etc?

maybe when you've either been in a car crash or witnessed the first hand, on scene damage caused by someones stupidity and recklessness, then maybe you'll understand

god knows, i've done some stupid **** in my life, i've raced, i've done burnouts, broken the speed limit on barely suitable roads, etc, and i know it was wrong, even though i minimised the risk to others the best i could (i try to avoid stupid **** with others in the car, and yes, i know that wont help people on the street or other cars)

i've also watched 2 people go from having a good day, to one dying in the wreck and the other dying in intensive care a few days later, i watched the car hit the pole, i saw the passenger twitching in her seat, i saw the blood, and i heard the screams.... i can still see and hear it all now, anytime, anywhere

i dont know about you, but i'd sooner see a TV ad like that than have to live through it again

dont look if youre squeamish, its the result of a camry at 160+ sideways into a power pole
