World Time Attack Challenge 2010 – Eastern Creek International Raceway May 21-22
Fernandez Motorsport and Plazmaman have joined forces and will be entering a 1000HP Supercar style XR6 turbo in the World Time attack challenge. Ex V8 driver, Jose Fernandez is building an ex V8 Supercar for Superlap. The car will be based around a V8 supercar style shell and running gear and powered by a highly developed turbo 4 litre twin cam six cylinder and Hollinger gearbox. Just got the first photos of the shell as they received it. so no engine etc yet, but just want people to know that it actually is being built and its not just a pipe dream If these two companies sound familiar it is with good reason. Plazmaman has been behind many of Australia fastest turbo cars and were the creators of the S2000 that dominated the Clubsprint class in 2008 and Jose Fernandez is a highly accomplished V8 supercar driver with a wealth of both driving and engineering knowledge so you can bet they will certainly be a team to watch very closely. For further updates I'm led to believe the World Time Attack website will have more information on the build in the next week or so.

I''m a little dissapointed theyre going to be basing it off a Supercar shell as opposed to something ground up, but i suppose it makes it somewhat cheaper. Theres also the development there possibly offsetting any drawbacks of the Supercar package.

They're basing it off a supercar so essentially it's not a Falcon at all- it's a purpose built race car chassis using a shortened floorpan as the base and falcon looking bodywork over the top. If they want to call it a Falcon they should start with a Falcon chassis, not a V8 supercar one.

In that sense V8 supercars should no longer be called falcons or commodores either. For the most reason i reckn its being called a falcon because it will use a I6 falcon engine and not a purpose built 5ltr V8.... :

That looks like a BF and if that's the case it IS still a Falcon body/chassis. It's my understanding that they went to the shortened floorpan with FG so both Fords and Holdens now run a common floorpan/wheelbase/suspension etc. and it's now just the silhouette that's different. Bushbasher

This thing's going to be mental. And I can say from past experience that Superlap is a great event. If you like motorsport and want to get up close and personal to the event, it's great. I'll be there for sure. There's some seriously mental cars there.

The lap times on that thing aren't going to be too crash hot... it keeps breaking traction everywhere and over-steering..
Drivers window ain't too flash either! Sometimes having less power is faster....

That is absolutely mental. Doesn't suprise me there's some problems with the 4WD system. There is so much technology in that car it's going to be hard to get it right. Good on em

Are all World Time Attack cars restricted to only using R-spec tyres? As in semi slicks? If so getting 1,000hp to the ground through only 2 semi slicks isnt going to be easy

If you speak to all the veteran race engineers they'll all tell you to spend money on power improvements last, and focus money on reliability, brakes, handling and weight reduction well before power upgrades....
The reality is most people spend money on their engine first and those things last... and end up with an ill handling over powered difficult to drive racecar that would be faster if it handled and braked better and had less but more progressive power....

Because if you spend money on brakes, handling, and reliability and weight loss power come little easier (on the track) therefore faster times
