A friend who works for Holden has just sent me these exclusive photo's of the VE finally out from under wraps. I must give everyone a warning though, don't tell anyone because it's a secret so SHHHHHHH.

I can see that Holden have not sacked any of their clandestine marketing types. The cover of putting a different brand vehicle on the rego plate was pure skill. No one will ever know.

Doesn't Holden have their own forums to push their barrows in? This is designed as a light hearted joke to upset the overly sensitive fans, but I guess you missed it. My bad

Whats the joke here?
Holden is importing korean cars and rebadged as holdens. People will buy them because the ads say that holden is the great australian car company. You see, my thinking is that people are idiots, and thus need constant reminding that their precious new holden is nothing more then the korean import that even slightly discerning buyers turn their noses up at.

Nice work there Casper, good ridance to another of the aforementioned idiots. (and a teenybopper holden man by the sound of it).

Holden bashing aside, I don't want to say I was impressed by the build quality of the Viva and Barina at the Sydney motor show, although I will say it was a lot better than what I expected - obviously I didn't drive the thing.
Korea is going down the right track to be the next Japan, likewise, Thailand is building a lot of Nissans, Toyotas and Hondas these days as well. The bad news for us is that as auto manufacturers are starting to turn their attention to a few new markets in Asia and South East Asia, they will start looking to manufacture cars closer to the source of the market and for less cost. Unfortunately, Korea and Thailand is quickly becoming to Australia what Mexico is to the United States. |

I'm looking forward to the new commodore. I sure hope its as good as its meant to be.
I used to think down on Holden folk, but the people on this forum have helped me understand that a lot of ford fans are idiots as well. So we are one and the same. Faithful fans of locally produced cars - and we don't know any better.

Ford will have to definitely up the ante with the next gen Falcon - but I doubt they'll take the AU design gamble due to the conservative aussie market. |

Yes, the Laser and Meteors were based on 323s. I forgot to add Telstars as well, based on the 626.
Early barinas were Suzuki, and the Geminis were Isuzu. You say you'd choose a Jap car over a Korean car anyday, but back then Jap cars were viewed the same way. How times have changed! Assuming that car industry trends remain the same, Korean cars in 10-20 years time will be where Jap cars are now. The industry might not be as great, but the product quality will be. And by then we'll probably be joking about Chinese, Indian and Thai cars the way we joke about Korean cars now. Korea has come a long way since the early days... :P -Dave- |
